WR Freeman to retire a Packer

Antonio Freeman has re-signed with the NFL team so he can retire as a Packer, a source with the team said Friday. The signing, which was first reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on its Web site, was confirmed to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Packers did not plan to make an official announcement. Freeman played for the Packers from 1995-2001 and 2003, and was one of quarterback Brett Favre's favorite targets. In eight seasons in Green Bay, Freeman caught 431 passes, fifth most all-time by a Packers player. In the 1996 Super Bowl winning season, he was the team's leading receiver with 56 passes caught. He had nine touchdown catches that season, second most on the team. Freeman played for Philadelphia in 2002 before he returned to the Packers the next season. He signed with Miami in 2004 but was released in training camp.
