As an Australian, I first saw American football played as a young teen in the early 80's when a game from the prior weekend was replayed very late on Friday nights.

One of Sydney's professional rugby league coaches undertook annual off-season study tours of NFL teams during the 1970's. What he learned went a long way to revolutionising our football codes, particularly in the areas of strength and conditioning, stats, film analysis and overall professionalism. He styled his coaching approach somewhat on Lombardi's, and when I saw the training video "Second Effort" and learned more about that Packers era, the organisation's history and unique ownership structure, I became hooked.

When pay television finally launched in Australia during the mid 1990's, it was not surprisingly sport that sustained it. Fast forward a generation and the NFL has grown "down under" from being a guilty pleasure enjoyed by a few Aussie weirdos like myself, to a sport that will host a regular season game next year in front of 100,000 fans.

I look forward to connecting with distant Packer brothers and sisters on this board and am hoping to also learn more about the game from you all along the way. Go Pack Go!

Welcome. Good timing. Our American Football is becoming more like your Australian Rules Football. Suddenly, American fans love scrums.

Yeah, it appears so. Cheers, milani.
My 3 Australian loves were always The Seekers, Tina Arena, and John Newcombe. I got to play at Newk's Tennis Ranch in South Texas in 1980. Very, very spirited folks. And I was in the best shape of my life at the time. They liked to " Knock off a few stubbies. " Whatever that meant.

Yes, Newk was certainly known to "knock the top off a coldy" back in the day ... George.W can attest to that. Tina still has a great voice; she first appeared on Aussie TV when she was eight.
