Jan Stenerud.

Now my question (that I've already formulated before in this forum):

Who was Lombardi's first coach at the college level? I need the name, the nickname, and a context in which he became famous.

Here's a hint: In that college Lombardi formed the famous Seven Bricks of Granite OL...

You must be talking about "Sleepy" Jim Crowley.

Sleepy Jim, along with Harry Stuhldreher, Elmer Layden and Don Miller made up the backfield of Knute Rockne's famous "Four Horsemen" of Notre Dame.

Grantland Rice, a famous writer of the early 20's, immortalized the backfield after their win against Army at the Polo grounds in New York. He wrote:

"Outlined against a blue-gray October sky, the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore their names are Death, Destruction, Pestilence, and Famine. But those are aliases. Their real names are: Stuhldreher, Crowley, Miller and Layden...."

Wow, even now that is some kind of word magic!

More about Sleepy Jim? He was originally from Green Bay. His high school coach? None other than Earl "Curly " Lambeau....

I have read David Maraniss book about Lombardi called "When Pride Still Mattered" so many times, the spine of the book is literally broken. It is, by far, the best book on Lombardi and his Packers I have ever read.

Kinda got on a roll there and could not shut up...sorry!

Ok, got the cramps out of my fingers after all of that...how about something more modern? Who knows what University of Northern Iowa ( yes, THAT UNI from the sweet 16 basketball bracket) quarterback, once stopped by as a "camp arm", and later went on to become a two time MVP?

(Hell, we had Favre, Brunell & Detmer at the time, how could we have kept him?)

Kurt Warner.

Some lucky soul found his camp jersey in a bin at the packer tent sale that he wore. Most likely the only one that will ever see the light of day.

My guess on Double D's number is 19, since he was a 7th round draft pick, and chances were slim of him making the team, they probably just gave him a camp number.
