Again, too big of a risk to use the tag. Playing the "What If" game is moot. There were absolutely no signs the Niners and Smith weren't going to get a deal done until recently, well past the deadline. You don't franchise a player and risk paying him more than the reigning NFL MVP with the hope of trading him later.

Isn't playing the "what if" game the whole point of this thread? Seeing as how Flynn is gone..

There was too much risk invovled, I think the best we wouldve gotten would be a 2nd round pick and if nobody wouldve given that we would be sitting with an expensive back up quarterback. Even if he goes and does great this season for the seahawks, there was nothing we could do.

All "what ifs" aside, I think it was a stand up thing for the organization to give him his shot as a starter on another team. Not only did they let him do so, they promoted him publicly to the media as a great guy to start for some team. They did Flynn a great service. That has to resonate with other players in the NFL who are considering Green Bay as a choice.
