Ok with the first round of cuts meaning we have to get down to 75, we all know there is one vet (A different vet for each of us) who has been out played, or just is lazy, so I would like to hear everyone's opinion. My opinion is this:

Goodson has to go. 4 game suspension, only played on ST last year, really haven't seen much of him in pre-season. We have better options at DB than him. Packers need to get some of their rep back that we've lost over the last 2 years and get rid of this guy.

I wanted to also cut Davant Adams, but I think he'll survive round one, and more than likely if a vet gets cut it's Goodson.

And YES I know I spelled Adams' name wrong! There's no E in 17 right now!

I'd take the $8Mil cap savings by cutting Peppers and put it right into an extension for Bakhtiari. OLB is stacked with: CM3, Fackrell & McCray on the left and Perry & Jones on the right. GB can only keep 5, or 6 at the most and Peppers is situational only (obvious pass rush situations ~ certainly can't play the run at all from his Friday play against SF).

I'd cut adam paddle hands first chance I got. I cringe every time I see a ball headed his way.

Or cut Lang and resign Sitton before the season to 4 yr w/ $12m signing bonus $18-20m total to really realize cap savings. Or go the other way. At this point they're almost interchangeable.

I'd try to trade Lang for a 3rd round pick to one of the worst 6 teams in the AFC and would settle for a 4th in 17 and a 6th in 18 for Lang and J. Thomas.

Goodson needs to go. I would try and trade Hyde to a team desperate for a DB for a low round draft pick. Once the cuts get to 53 I would cut Adams, Barkley and Barington.

Hyde, Adams, Barclay, and Barrington? That seems a little out there tbh.

This is probably one of the most ridiculous threads I've seen in a long, long time. The Packers are one of the most talented teams in the NFL and one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. There's absolutely no reason to trade any starters or core backups.

Based on this I won't comment on any of the suggestions made above aside of mentioning again that there's no reason to release Goodson right now as he won't count against the team's roster limit during his suspension. Thompson can watch the cornerback group and special team units play for four weeks before having to make a decision on him.

Lang and Sitton were brought up to show how asinine the concept of cutting Peppers for cap room really was. I mean we are a long way from reloading let alone rebuilding or blowing it up and starting over.

Yeah in reality I'm more in this camp.

Yes, Peppers lost contain on a long run vs. the 49ers, but it's a stretch to say he can't play the run at all based on 8 total plays.

A 15 year vet making $10+Mil/yr. shouldn't know how to keep contain? He completely blew 2 plays, which according to your 8 plays would be 25% failure rate. I expect more from a vet, especially when he's got 4th highest cap # and blowing plays.

I'd keep the team "as is" and try to win a Super Bowl.

Curious, especially considering all the approval ratings, what is meant by "as is". Certainly can't be the current roster, as that would be illegal. Does it mean not getting rid of any players who were on the team last year (haven't run the numbers, but, if they keep the draft choices, Cook, and the good-looking additions, I doubt if that's possible, either)? Not sure how to respond without understanding the premise. Please elaborate.

I do think we'll see a surprise cut or two and then a surprise keep or two.

Peppers wasn't signed to defend the run but rush the passer. Suggesting to release the team's sack leader over the last two years because of losing contain in a meaningless preseason game is plain and simple ludicrous.

Browns cut OLB Paul Kruger. He'd be an interesting pick up for us.

Expecting a 15 year vet making over $10Mil/year to have some awareness that not every play is a pass is my point. What happens when he is inserted into a 3rd & long play and the QB runs a keeper right past Peppers... will it be forgiven? Whether it's a preseason game or the Super Bowl I expect Peppers to do his job as an OLB... rush the passer AND keep contain on a run play.

If we wanted a SF QB to run rampant on our D we should've saved a few $million and kept Erik Walden!

Yep. People need to understand that Peppers is a pass rush specialist at this stage of his career and nothing more, which by the way, Peppers can still get to the QB nicely.

Peppers played more than two third of his snaps on pass plays last season and I expect that number to even further increase in 2016. Of course he should keep contain on a run play but him failing to do so in a preseason game is a non-issue.

Certainly. I would add that Goodson is also not being paid while suspended.

I think that the "surprise" cut will be Adams. Not catching that TD pass from Callahan was atrocious.

Normally the cut would be Goodson, but while technically he's a vet it's only because he's been soaking up a roster spot for too long. I agree with Captain that there is no reason to cut him until his suspension is over.

He's also been good against the run in his time in Green Bay. Cutting a guy who's rusty on a couple of blown contains is quite the knee jerk reaction.
