Some observations from weigh-ins so far.
  • Reagor coming in over 200# is a good sign for him. He was not used enough as a YAC weapon at TCU, but he has the RB-like body to thrive in that regard.
  • Ruggs isn't a very big player, but he has really big hands for a slighter guy (10+"), which will be nice on downfield targets.
  • Aiyuk is maybe a little shorter than predicted at just under 6', but he has length with 33.5" arms and an 80" wingspan.
  • K.J. Hamler is as small as advertised at sub 5'9" and 178#; his lack of size really shows up when you watch him play.
  • Antonio Gibson, a RB/WR hybrid player for Memphis, is definitely built like a RB: 6' 228#; but he has pretty small hands for a guy that is projected to play mostly receiver (8.5").
  • Chase Claypool of Notre Dame has put on even more weight since the Senior Bowl and may be embracing a switch to tight end. He's now 6'4" 238#.
  • Jared Pinkney is a guy who has been talked about as one of the TE prospects who can play in line; his measurements look good for that across the board: 6'4" 257#, 10.5" hands.
  • Cole Kmet at 6'6" 262# is a legit Y tight end prospect.
  • Adam Trautman came in similarly at 6'5" 255#.

Eh...measurements at this stage have never really impacted my thoughts a ton but few takeaways for me:

Reagor adding weight just strengthens my stance I would support selecting him even more, as his size worries me in handling impacts.
Hamler, strengthens my stance I would not risk a 1st round pick on him...I'm hesitant in the 2nd depending how it all plays out. But 3rd on his boom potential is there and I am most definitely an over cautious type guy.
Gibson out of Memphis has had a circle around him on my boards since the start. I disagree that he will shift to WR mostly. He truly could be the hybrid both spots type guy 100% and make us spending above rookie pay on Ervin unnecessary. I'm a fan and his measurables didn't change that for me at all.
Claypool, being an Irish fan I kinda expected him to add some weight. He is not a burner and knows his size, hands and whether he digests the playbook/speed of NFL is where he'll make it or break it. I was much higher on ESB because I love playbook nerds (he is ooober intelligent) but Claypool has arguably much greater skillset, but isn't as "smart" if that makes sense. If we decide to not address the WR spot in the 1st or the 2nd and Claypool happens to make it to the 3rd, I think folks could be shocked at what he could become.
Kmet, he is by FAR and AWAY my favorite TE prospect that has entered a draft in a LONG time. I am NOT a fan of TE's in the 1st round at all...but while I wouldn't do it, I could see why Gute would do it if he did.

  • Ben Bartch, OT, St. Johns lacks some length, with arms under 33".
  • We already knew this, but Mekhi Becton is a mammoth: 6'7", 364#, almost 11" hands, almost 36" arms, and an 83+" wing span.
  • Netane Muti, the high upside but oft injured guard prospect, has sub 32" arms.
  • Matt Peart, who is my favorite developmental OT prospect, has some serious length: nearly 37" arms and 86.5" wing span.
  • Andrew Thomas of Georgia also has arms over 36" long.

Ruggs III ran a 4.25 40 at Crimson Tide JR Pro Day. Though pro-days cant really be trusted due to hand timing and so forth, but statistically speaking its usually (+- )0.15 secs. Ruggs has the propensity to break 4.22. I like Ruggs as a prospect.

If we get Ruggs it will only be because Gute gets all the other teams TRASHED drunk and/or we trade up...neither is happening.

After he runs, it's more likely that Ruggs goes top 10 then that he falls to #30.

  • Massive run D specialist, Leki Fotu of Utah, came in at over 6'5", 330# with 34+" arms.
  • A.J. Epenesa is a hair over 6'5", 275-- clearly an edge and not an interior lineman.
  • Jonathan Greenard is an Edge from Florida that has been getting some buzz-- 6'3" 263# with 35" arms.
  • Zack Baun came in just over 6'2", 238#. His projection will be interesting.
  • Akeem Davis-Gaither is 6'1", 225#-- still light, but better than the listed 215.
  • Patrick Queen came in just over 6', 229#. Similar to Devin Bush last year (5'11" 234).

Kenneth Murray came in bigger than anyone expected.

6'2.5"
240#
And an 80" wingspan!?!?!!

That's amazing for how big and quick he is.

Packers have little to no chance.

I had Fotu falling 3rd and 4th round picks. We need a run stopping NT, Fotu would fit that mold for cheap.

  • Safety Antoine Brooks of Maryland is just under 5'11" and 220#. May be a candidate to play linebacker.
  • Jeremy Chinn of SIU also has good size at 6'3" 220, however he was much more of a high safety in college.
  • Lenoire Rhyne phenom Kyle Dugger is just a big man-- 6'1" 217# isn't eye popping, but he has long arms (33"), big hands (10.5"), and a big wing span (78.5").

Dugger has a tremendous story and is a guy you wish you could keep hidden and be the only folks wise to him, but his name is gaining serious attention!

Justin Jefferson ran a 4.4, I was hoping he would be available at 30, likely no chance now. Trautmen destroyed the 3 cone drill, he’s a great TE prospect.

If Jefferson's 4.43 gets him drafted top 29, that would be awesome from where I'm standing. He definitely isn't that fast on tape.

Add me to that nation, I ain't a fan. Same goes for Shenault. But I am a fan of the older Jefferson (Van)

Is he going to throw the ball to himself??

Look, I know it's just customary regarding the draft to say that someone is a hater if they don't like someone's pet prospect. All I'm out to do is share what I think based off what I see and what I can learn from others. I have no agenda. I just don't really care for Jefferson and would genuinely love if some other prospect got pushed down because he went top 29. But the great thing is that no one has to care what I think.
