Thanks Papa. I'm sure working with Dickey helped guys like Lofton and Coffman be successful. He was a very productive QB with a solid arm. Not HOF stuff, but good enough for what the Packers were experiencing post-Lombardi and pre-Wolf.
Hey milani, what ever happened to the Majik Man once he was replaced by Favre? I remember him as being an above average QB for GB, and deserving of a starting QB gig. I just lost track of him after Favre stepped in (and stepped out about 250 plus consecutive starts later…..).
I remember how good it felt to make the playoffs between Lomardi and Wolf. Those were some lean years.
The Bears win in 85 was so depressing because the Packers, post-Lombardi, had been so bad. But yeah, Wolf and Holmgren arrived is the early 90s, not sure of it was 91 but it doesn't matter. We've been treated to three decades of outstanding football since, and two SB wins.Since we're reminiscing, I was just thinking that more years have now passed since our last Super Bowl win, than passed between the Bears Super Bowl win and our Super Bowl win against New England. From the Bears win to Super Bowl XXXI was 11 years, and it's been 15 years (and counting) since Super Bowl XLV.
For some reason that time between the Bears Super Bowl and our win in XXXI feels like an eternity, while our win with McCarthy and Rodgers doesn't seem all that long ago. I think this is an example of "old age time distortion", time passing much faster as you get older.
In fact, it was only six years after the Bears Super Bowl win that Mike Holmgren became the Packers coach. And that was the point where I actually started to feel hope again - because he was a product of a winning (49ers) system.
I keep referring to the Bears winning the Super Bowl because that was the low point of my football fandom life lol. I remember going to a bar after the game and everyone walking around in Bear jerseys going "Whooo!". And Ric Flair wasn't there either. It was so depressing I decided to just go home.
And yeah, it does feel like it's time for another Lombardi trophy. That's a sign of how spoiled we have become as fans. But c'mon, every fan wants their team to win the SB. At least we have a reasonable expectation if could happen soon.

I don't know why, I'm just not feeling the spark and expectation like when we had Favre and Rodgers. I always felt there was a possibility with them. Nothing against Love, I'm just not certain if Love/MLF is going to deliver on the highest level. Right now we don't even know if Jacobs is going to be on the team. Oh well, you can't see them all coming.

IIRC the following season had another playoff team added to the mix. Packers were a year too early.

It's not really about Love particularly, I think he's good enough he could win a Super Bowl, in the right situation. In the past, I've felt like the team was on the right track to win a Super Bowl. For whatever reason, I'm just not feeling that with the current team.
MLF I do have definite reservations about.

Yep, there were a number of these stomach-churning statements. The Pack Will Go Far with Starr! (OK I just made that up.)
