I didn't even need to see the breakdown to still wonder how he was so cheap...I get it he FINALLY had that first good year of his career...but three years of experience starting, coming off a higher end year....just seems low.

I like how easy it is to get away from the deal, if need be. Gute may have learned his lesson from the Hobbs deal. I haven't done a deep dive on St. Juste yet, but I remember him during his draft year and really liking him.

St Juste plays a lot of snaps on special teams. He's likely a core special teamer and viewed as a backup CB. His yards given up in completions per down was poor with Washington but improved last year with the Chargers. The contract amount would indicate he's a core special teams ace with the ability to play backup CB.

Initial reports saying 4 years/$80 million.
If accurate that could tip the comp pick into a 3rd round range. A lot depends on how the entire free agent salary structure works out.

It would be cool if the Packers were awarded three 3rd round comp picks in 2027. Along with their own pick, Gute could have four 3rd rounders to work with.

I would trade every last one to convert them into 2nd and 4th round picks. Even with the Kraft pick, there's too much bad history in the 3rd round.

I would just consider those 3rd round comp picks as the beginning of round 4. Problem solved.

I don't have a problem saving up for next year. Keep the picks and the money. Seems like we could make an incredible leap that could last. Where am I wrong?

I'm actually curious about this too. ironic now that Bisaccia is gone it seems like we've actually made it a conscious effort to sign some guys with a more pointed ST focus this year (St Juste, Niemann, Welch, Brooks, etc)

I think you are being kind saying that all 3 are #2 NFL worthy, but yes, you are correct.
I was thinking the same thing. We are a long way from Charles Woodson and Al Harris, or Adderley and Hart.

The problem with our defense is that we are too top heavy. We have a great EDGE in Parsons and a really good DT in Wyatt. Both are injury concerns now and everyone else is merely a good backup but not playoff starter quality. We can say the same at LB with Edgerrin Cooper. We do have two studs at safety in McKinney and Evan Williams, but the CB room is not good. Our best is average at best.

We need more solid players, and maybe less super stars....at least veteran super stars. Superstars on their rookie contracts are preferred.

Doubs will sign a 4yr/$70mil deal ($17.5mil/yr) with New England. OTC is currently projecting '27 Comp picks of 4th Rnd for Willis & Doubs, 5th Rnd for Quay, and yet to be determined (3rd or 4th) for Rasheed Walker when he signs.

Doubs should do well in NE, good for him... bad for everyone else.

That’s great. My guess on Doubs was $15-$17mil and he has a $17.0 base plus $3mil annual incentives per year.

Walkers common comparison is Dan Moore Jr who signed a 4yr X $82Mil or $20.5mil annual last season. So it’s a little more dynamic swing there. I’ve read Rasheed projected as low as $18 annual and some mention to a ceiling top of $25Mil annual. My guess is more $19-21Mil area but the market is whatever thinks he’s worth. He’d probably 4yr X $85Mil these LT get paid.

The thing is anything at $20mil or less is looking more RD4 comp imo. Theres lots of $20mil area stuff this year. I think RD3 compensatory bottom is now $21-22Mil like Malik area. Heck Malik is already pushed down to 4th spot (I’m talking Unrestricted and a new team) and There’s still potential of 1 or 2 guys passing him.

Honestly playing time is what will likely push Malik and Doubs up higher and MAYBE get a 3rd but I think if I'm Gute thinking of using ANY of the future draft picks in trades should bank on 4ths.

There are a few released DTs I'd love us to target and and the bonus is they don't hurt comp formula at all cuz they were cut.

He WILL get to play CB and when someone goes down his reps will skyrocket.

Pats could use him.

DT A’Shawn Robinson is a very good player at an affordable price. Coming off one of his best Pro years. He’s Played 45 of the last 50 games durable player and more above average presence.
His last contract was a 3yr X 22.5mil di about $7.5M average. This is a very durable player in the mold maybe a sliver behind Kenny Clark but less 1/2 the cost and won’t affect our comp tables much if any

Clear upgrade over anyone not named Wyatt. I’d love to have him on a
2yr X $13-15mil type deal
I think we may start a thread next season called " Former Packers-Where Are They Now? " It may be fun keeping track of them week to week. So far have we given anyone to our division?

I think there’s some legitimacy to that. I still think there’s an approach to doing both. There are other internal contract extensions that’ll need to be perfected and there’s also some work to be done to shore up a couple of areas.

Listen, we don’t need a $20mil + $10Mil type signings (or a repeat of 2025) We should use the bargain bin on some $2-4Mil guys or at most spend $10-15mil (I’m talking total output) for a pair of known FA quantities imo. That’s still rolling 15-20Mil forward.
