If you want to laugh, take a look at Clay's pimple-faced-stats accumulation of what a computer with non-relevant stats can do to make a team look good or bad. The Packers, in this scenario are 9-7, and essentially so far down the line on defense that Gute and everyone involved in the draft should be fired because they failed to address the need for at least a half dozen new starters to even move up in the lower middle of the league.

This is one of the prime examples as to why I laugh at this garbage. None of it deals with the visual tests of what plays out on the field. His whole field of vision is based on fantasy stats not the real game. But that's just my opinion.

I agree with your opinion 100%

Yes, odds are that certain teams "should" have solid years and other teams that are in rebuild mode "should" have below average seasons. That said, injuries, development and luck can have a HUGE effect on each teams outcome from year to year. That goes for each teams weekly opponent as well. You might catch an opponent at an opportune time (lots of injuries) or the opposite, when they are peaking.

Like I said in my previous post on this topic. NFL seasons and results are hard to predict week to week, yet alone 3 weeks before the start of regular season.

Exactly the point. Nothing is a given in the NFL. I've seen teams go from being in the Super Bowl to having a losing record the following season. Injuries and losses through retirement and free agency, as well as other teams maturing - all play a huge part in what happens. Stats are nice but they aren't even close to the whole story. Clay lives with them and it's really all he knows. He's just a fantasy football geek.

There’s some hate for the Packers in Rodgers wake. There’s just certain pundits that want to discourage Packer fans. Like Joy from that the Facility can’t stand GB. James Jones does a wonderful job of representing us, but if not for him (I think she respects him) she’d tear us apart with her know it all attitude. Her and that cat “Shady” McCoy both just despise the Packers.
Richard Sherman almost looks mad anytime he discusses the Packers or especially Love. It’s almost as Sherman is trying to convince himself that Love isn’t a good QB which is ridiculous.

The reason I bring this up is that nearly every year there’s a sector of so called “experts” that call for the demise of the Packers. They seemingly want to believe they are a bottom dweller and my guess is it stems from being jealous. How in the world could we skip through 3-4 generations of High caliber QB’s. Every year we’re legit contenders it’s almost not fair. I admit I’d be mad also if I wasn’t a Packer fan.

The truth is that the Packers went to Philly early THIS year 2025. Had it not been for a bogus turnover that Nixon recovered on camers (he clearly had control of the ball on his back) What does he need? A football move??
The second he recovers and is touched it’s a dead ball.

That WildCard game was never more than 1 score. GB was depleted on Offense and had they had some better depth on OL and a dynamic playmaker or two added to the Offense? I think they go toe to toe no problem. Correct me if I’m wrong but that Philly team looked pretty good and we were only a tick behind them.
The Philly Defense is what won the day, their Offense wasn’t much better than GB, at least against our D crew. They needed help from us and the Refs on play #1 just to score 22 points. That game would’ve been completely different had GB just picked up a 1st down and then punted.

Yes Philly deserved to Win. However GB was no slouch. This season we stayed even at D and added firepower to the O through multiple weapons. Golden, Savion, Lloyd should get their opportunities this year. Belton and Morgan are just better depth

Since Favre started his run, no team in the NFL has won more games, scored more points, or more touchdowns than the Packers. .632 winning percentage, 13,018 points, 1,520 touchdowns... I'd say there's a lot of resentment for a lot of fans of some other clubs.

Very bad new on the injury situation. Lloyd reinjured his hamstring, and it sounds as though it may be more severe than the last one. Lafleur seems to think it'll be multiple weeks.

GREEN BAY — Ben Sirmans has coached college and pro football for three decades. He’s been in the NFL for 14 years, and he’s entering his 10th year as the Green Bay Packers running backs coach.

So, Sirmans has seen some stuff.

But he has never — ever — seen a player start his career with worse injury luck than Packers second-year halfback MarShawn Lloyd, who is hurt … again.

“To be honest, I have not,” Sirmans said Sunday, one day after Lloyd suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s 23-19 preseason victory over the Indianapolis Colts. “And I don’t think any of us have.

There's also bad new for Barryn Sorrell, who suffered a knee injury on a punt return. He was seen riding a bike afterward, and walked off under his own power, but according to Lafleur, it's - again - likely to be a few weeks.

Omar Brown, who is having a good camp, also suffered a lung injury. As of Sunday, he was still hospitalized in Indianapolis.

Real bad news all around. Lung? Hospital? That sounds bad

Lloyd can't stay healthy.

- This time a hamstring issue

- A hip injury at the beginning of his rookie training camp

- A hamstring injury that lasted through the season opener

- An ankle injury that landed him on injured reserve.

- An appendectomy

Shady is frustrated because he was on those Eagle teams that came up short during the Andy Reid days. That includes those two 2010 season wins in Philly when Vick was QB.

I haven't seen any announcements that he left the hospital. Hopefully Brown is okay.
I think he's still there, as of this morning. Bruised lung = blood/fluid in &/or around lung, making oxygen transfer difficult. Similar to really bad pneumonia, along with other risks. Happy he's got doctors & nurses caring for him & watching out for negative signs. Get well soon, Omar.

Good news, bad news I guess. I'm glad he's going to be OK, but this is a disappointing end to a surprisingly promising preseason for the young man. He had a very realistic shot at making the final 53 as the 4th safety, so this is quite a setback for him.

If he isn't ready to return to football after he gets out of the hospital, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they put him on IR and stash him away until next year so he can have another shot at it. If he goes on, before the 53 cut-down, I believe he's ineligible for the entire season. He'd get the $960k on his contract.

If they waive him injured, they'd do a settlement. How much of a savings it would be I'm not certain. With the potential he's shown I'd keep him on IR and pay him. Next year he might come out of the chute ready to contribute.

I hate to be jumping ahead on what to do with him when he's still battling a serious issue. In Voyageur's scenario I would put him on IR to secure the Packers rights to have him in camp next season. My guess is that he will be ready to play by October and therefore they will waive him injured hoping to bring him back but knowing that he'll be on someone's team once healthy.

I wouldn't be surprised if he can't play again. An injury to a lung? I would guess he has to be careful after that so as not to hurt it again. jmo

I would surprised if this is career ending. From minimal research even a serious lung contusion has a high probability of reverting to completely normal activity. The more important thing is just protecting him short term for risks like Pneumonia etc.
If I were guessing? 60-70% chance he’s on the field in full pads either on a PS or Roster this season 2025. It’s very early we still have over 2+ weeks until the regular season starts and It’s a long season.
The more concerning thing career wise is will this affect our decision to keep him altogether. It’s just we have a plethora of guys competing at bottom roster at CB. IMO we are also not completely past adding a known veteran. It’s our biggest need and I’m pretty sure Gute has some ideas on that (I’d even go on record to hypothesize.. he’s actively looking at this moment At CB)

Well I certainly don't know anything about lungs. Just seems like a long time in the hospital.

I don’t either but our God given ability to bounce back is pretty impressive. Not to say there’s not exceptions.

I was always surprised that patients with actual severe bone breaks or high level surgeries are often put back on their feet like next day or a few days later. Our bodies respond well to post trauma movement or PT. It’s fascinating to me I’m like you I’d think they’d be in a body cast for a month. Maybe wheelchaired to get sunlight at 90 days. Lol

If you waive him injured in the pre-season, another team can claim him, basically similar to waivers. If no one claims him, he reverts to season ending IR.

If they cut him with an injury settlement after ending up on IR, the player can re-sign elsewhere. For the original team, there is an extra waiting period. I want to say 6 weeks past the settlement window, but I could be wrong on the amount.

Basically, if the Packers think he could come back after 4 weeks, pay him a settlement as such, they wouldn't be able to re-sign him to the active roster until week 10. And that presumes he doesn't sign with someone else before then.

Can't he just go back to the practice squad and wait his turn? Next man up when someone gets injured?

According to Mike Spofford (Packers.com) Brown tried to play through the injury. He continued to play until he had to take himself out.

I knew a guy, w/o for UCLA. In practice he got creamed. Did damage to his liver I think. Kept practicing that day and ended up in the hospital. Prothro actually visited him. No more football. And he probably would have played in that USC game when Dennis Dummit threw for like over 400 yards or something.
