I do like that size. But all 4 of our running backs are good.

I really like how McManus has taken on his role as our kicker. He came to camp ready to contribute and is 13-13 so far and that includes at least 3 over 50 yards. It's nice knowing the job is in that good of hands.

His last legal issues aside, I was a big fan of the signing. I think the Packers are set at K for at least the next 2 years. With the release of Alex Hale due to an injury, I sort of expect them to bring another leg in, just to give McManus's leg a bit of relief during camp and preseason.

They did sign another Kicker 4 days ago, right after releasing Hale. Again, another International player, this time from Ireland.

That’s another bonus aspect that goes unnoticed in various NFL team evaluations. McNamath (his nickname) didn’t start the season with us last year and it hurt us. We now have a an easy Top 10 Kicker and as we know that’s a very important aspect of this game. Kickers are the leading scoring player on each team and as we know the most points Wins.

I really like this latest pick-up by Gute. The Packers signed RB Israel Abanikanda off of waivers.

This guy is an athletic freak (9.88 RAS). Despite this being his 3rd year in the league, he is only 22 years old. He hasn't seen a lot of playing time in the NFL, but I have to think he was on Gute's short list during the 2023 draft and remained there as a guy to keep his eye on.

Will "Izzy" make the 53 man roster? Probably not, unless there is an injury among the top 3; Josh Jacobs, MarShawn Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson. I do think he will push Wilson for that number 3 job, as well as Brooks for the #4 (PS) job. He will be fun to watch in preseason, where I expect to see a lot of him.

You must be logged in to see this image or video!
He’s a guy that’s a coin flip. But if it comes up heads it’s like getting a bonus 5th Round type selection. Best part is they pretty much knew he sucked as a blocker. Plus Israel
comes in very Raw, really needing a couple of years to improve several areas of his game. Well here he is entering Year 3, I don’t pretend to know where he’s at in development.
NFL.com in 2023 had him 6.23 Draft grade and “eventual Starter”. In that Top 10-15 best RB’s from his Class. The kid broke Tony Dorsett’s single game Rushing record (330 yards) and set the ACC Conference record for most rushing TD’s in a game (6). That doesn’t happen by accident.

In many seasons he’s an automatic RB4, but he’s got to beat out Chris Brooks who’s pretty good. If he could (or already had) refined his craft some since being drafted in RD5? He could benefit from a change of scenery and earn a PS role. All it takes is 1 or 2 guys to miss time to get your chance.

You know who he slightly reminds me of just from an overall profile is a slightly lighter version of our RB Samkon Gado from the Metropolis of Lynchburg VA (being sarcastic). Although Israel Abanikanda is obviously more proven there in the ACC, but both were that physical Supercharged specimens.

I have no idea where to put this, since there is no "WTF Are These Idiots Doing?" thread.

I guess 100 NFL Players and 2 Dozen NFL Employees aren't being paid enough and they decided to make ends meet by illegally reselling their Super Bowl tickets for more money than they are allowed to.

Once again though, the NFL can't even get the fines right. Players are only being fined 1.5 times the face value of the tickets and club employees are being fined 2 times the FV of the tickets that they resold.

First, I am guessing that these people got more than 1.5 or even 2 times the FV, so it doesn't seem like much of a fine, if any. Second, whose making more money, the players or the club employees?

It doesn't sound like the investigation has been completed yet. If I had to guess though, I bet way more than 100 players made money off of reselling their tickets (if they bought them). The CBA allows players on all 32 teams to be able to purchase two tickets for the Super Bowl games. If that includes Practice Squad players, that means NFL players can scoop up 4,416 SB tickets. No wonder SB ticket prices are so fricking high! The average cost of a ticket, according to the article below, was $13,448.66.

The difference maker for Abanikanda is that he now knows he's expendable if he doesn't do the work and earn the job. There are no guarantees from here on in it's all "show me what you've got" or it's out the door. Sometimes it takes a boot kick to get people thinking about how that solid income is on its way out the door and it isn't coming back unless you put up instead of showing up.

Everyone's out to make a buck even if they have a wheelbarrow full of $100 bills. The only ones I feel for are the guys on the practice squad and people who try to make an extra buck who are working in the equipment rooms if they get them, etc.

Israel Abanikanda is a short term replacement, as GB needs/wants 6 RB's active in camp. He's the perfect GB size at 5'-10", 216 lbs. Has a week or 2 to shows his talent before a roster spot will be needed so I hope he shows some "pop" & forces a cut elsewhere. Agree, the top-4 spots are tough to crack, but a PS spot is still in play.
Can never have too many RBs in the mix. I think the 53 will be Jacobs, Wilson, and Lloyd. It would be nice if they could get Brooks through waivers to the PS. Or maybe another back in camp breaks into the top 4.

The "average" cost of a ticket is more than $13k. Yikes I would have never guessed that number.

I guess for me, if your employment contract prohibits you from reselling your SB tickets for profit, then don't. It shouldn't matter what level you are at in the organization or your justification for "needing" the money.

A bit unrelated, but still having to do with resale. I remember the days, before the internet, that to get a ticket to a Packer game, I had to travel to Green Bay and find someone selling a ticket "on the street". It was illegal to resell tickets on Packer property. Pre 1997 Super Bowl, that wasn't really all that hard. There were tickets to be had and usually below face value. Then the Packer organization decided to coral resellers into a roped off area where they were allowed to resell tickets. That was an absolute joke. What it did was bring all the sellers together, within shouting distance of each other, and the market price for a ticket became fixed. One time my girlfriend and I decided to stop in GB for a game after being up in Door County. I can't remember the team the Packers were facing, but it was a big game and resellers had set tickets well above market value. One guy said to me "Sorry bub, that is the price, at kickoff we all tear our tickets up if they aren't bought." Now I doubt that they actually did that, but we opted out and headed to a bar to watch the game.

The NFL is a monopoly and that monopoly has been the perfect environment to create greed. Whether it is the organization themselves, the players or the local guy renting out an 8' x 16' patch of grass on his front lawn for $50, the fix is on.

I actually miss the days when people would be selling tickets at the gates. But eventually that changed to businesspeople gathering up all the tickets which was not the same. We live in a relatively new age where all the loopholes are plugged up so that big business can get all the scraps. No more games on am radio. Well, not many. I think it's more to do with big business than the NFL.

I definitely agree with your post, but not this part. The NFL IS a big business and a monopoly at that. It isn't by accident that the NFL brought in a record $13.8 billion in national revenue during the 2024 fiscal year. The Packers themselves, the only team required to report financial information because they are "publicly" owned, had a net profit of $83.7 million, an increase of 39.3% from the previous year!

Yes. That's right and most owners are probably among the greediest.

Not a new signing, but Keith Randolph Jr was someone that flew under the radar. He was a 2024 consensus 7th Rounder who was signed by Chicago to a 3yr deal as a Undrafted Priority FA. Chicago has done a good job of bringing aboard good D talent overall. He was a cut after injury concerns and GB picked him up last January.

Chicago must’ve been at least impressed with him as they paid him $220k guaranteed on his initial deal.

You're right. Everyone has to live up to the same standards. No matter what position you have in the organization the rules need to be followed. I was thinking along the lines of the little guy who makes less than $30k a year making a buck on the side and quite honestly, selling them at face value which is apparently legitimate should be enough of a reward in all fairness. My comment was actually out of line with my personal convictions to be honest. Thanks for reminding me.

You're dead on when it comes to the greed factor. It's way too easy to get caught up in it.

Doesn't stand out as overly big, fast, quick, violent, or "slippery" inside. Not sure that he's anything more than a camp-body unless he learns some tricks from the vets.

Yeah. I think he’s one of those types that’s not a high RAS guy, but is still a good football player and relies on violent hands, good shedder and pursuit with good instincts. That will often make up for some loss of pure athleticism.
I suspect many of these players were pre-draft later 6th-7th-Priorty Undrafted graded by us. So when they are available and we have a spot open they battle for that PS or at least get brought in after an injury to fill out depth because of familiarity with our system.
Is he mad? He looks mad. I wouldn’t want to be alone in a room and tell him he’s fired! Maybe I’d tell him in the parking lot as I’m driving by window cracked? Just saying.

I suppose there is an outside chance that one of these "camp bodies" could show something special, I just wouldn't make a bet on it. An UDFA who has already been signed and cut by Chicago doesn't bode well.

I don't follow TC or the PS much except for the headlines. When they start cutting from 90 to 53, I have no idea who most of these guys are.

True that. Yeah keep in mind I’m just passing information here, I’m absolutely in no way suggesting that just because I essentially regurgitate a write up on a player that in any way he’s a lock. This is just my effort to categorize and decipher all these guys and if someone starts to pop? We both have a little history behind the player, meaning he didn’t just come out of left field.

I will say this. Other than at maybe CB depth, QB3, iDL there’s very little room leftover in 2025. Most of the Roster carried over, plus we draft picks in each round and brought in some FA and claimed a player or three. We’re at the Brim and about to spill over.

Looks like Jenkins counsel figured out he’s in no place to renegotiate. I’m glad because him switching roles implies he needs every snap he can get at Center. Welcome Back Elgton!

Now let’s Roll!

I actually think him being back actually signals a small agreement is reached, it might be a post season agreement based type thing or we may see something this week yet.

It could be a shake hands and realize this is the last year, last ride together. Let's go win a SB and part ways Elgton type thing.

Looks like his "back issue" cleared up too.

Jenkins forfeited a $500K workout bonus for skipping the offseason program. However, I don't think he was fined for not participating in mandatory practices, since he did show up, but didn't participate due to those "back issues."

I hope things work out for the Packers and Jenkins. He's a good player, but I don't feel sorry for him. The Packers had rewarded him with a juicy extension of his rookie deal and were paying him the kind of money that a solid starting LG/T would expect. He will continue to make the same salary this season, despite being shifted to C, a position where less money is typically paid to OL starters. If he thinks he is worth more, F him. Prove yourself to be a Pro Bowl Caliber Center and then go out and get the kind of money you seek. If Elgton feels he can be a top LT or LG for another team, he will probably have that chance in Free Agency next season, since I don't think the Packers will keep him around, without a reworked contract, due to his scheduled $24.8M cap hit.

My hope. He has an outstanding year at Center, proves to himself and the Packers that this is his career position and they work out some kind of new long term deal that both sides are happy with.

If things had continued and he told the Packers he won't play Center, until a new deal is done, I think the Packers would have dumped him and split the $9.6M dead cap hit over 2 seasons.
