Players will report for camp on July 27, when they will undergo physicals and testing, and then hit the field some time the next day, a Monday. The exact time of the practice was not announced, but it will be held in the morning.
It's an unusual Monday start to camp, but it's tied into the Packers' preseason opener, which also is on a Monday. They begin the exhibition season on Monday, Aug. 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Teams can begin training camp two weeks prior to their exhibition opener. Last year, the Packers opened camp on a Saturday and opened the preseason at Pittsburgh two weeks later on a Saturday.
The Packers also announced the dates for their mandatory minicamp: June 17-19. That's a change from previous years, when the camp was held in May.
Coach Mike McCarthy will hold a rookie minicamp May 2-4
. Four sessions of the organized team activities are scheduled to be open to the public, weather permitting. They are: Wednesday, May 21; Thursday, May 29; Wednesday, June 4; and Wednesday, June 11.
