I will say this much - if Gute or anyone in management insinuates that Claypool for a 2nd was too much (remember the 2nd they got is probably slightly better than where ours washes out at) I'm going to call BS. We essentially gave up two second rounders for Christian Watson.

Yep, and honestly I actually quite like Watson, but I think at the same time if we're being realistic the odds are that he probably doesn't pan out to be as good of a receiver as Claypool (And the same is true of a potential 2023 2nd-rd receiver, for instance. It's nothing against Watson but rather just the probabilities...)

For sure unknowns with him, vs more knowns with Claypool...

Man, heading on 17 years of the Packers consistently, year after year, ignoring glaring position group deficiencies during a championship window.

You can't even get mad about it anymore. The franchise is the definition of stagnation as the Murphy and the board are content to just run it like a business and not apply any downward pressure so long as the dollars keep rolling in. As a socialist, I'm happy that my favorite team is publicly owned. But the Mark Murphy era has really shown the glaring weaknesses of the Packers' ownership design.

The Bills go get Nyheim Hines. Chiefs traded for Kadarius Toney. Philly went and got Robert Quinn. The 49ers, Christian McCaffrey. Dolphins got Bradley Chubb.

All NFC North teams were active today.

But the Packers fresh off of locking in a soon to be 39 year old no doubt 1st ballot hall of fame quarterback on a new deal say nah, bruh. We good.

So....why exactly did we extend Rodgers?

That's not hating on Rodgers by any means either; I just don't understand why we even bothered paying so much to keep him around if we're not willing to go all-in around him. If you wanted to save money and draft assets you might as well have moved on.

Lol. I just don't get the no move for Jeudy

He is still on his rookie year and potential Top 10(or 5) WR down the road when/if he progresses

Even when AR eventually retires. Jeudy would still be an integral part of the offense

Yep, this. You just get the sense that our management simply places much, MUCH higher value on future draft capital than the majority of other serious contenders do. All of these teams either a.) already gave away a bunch to assemble their team or b.) are already in a very good position to contend for a title this year (or both) and still felt compelled to further invest in the right-now.

Bills are arguably the best team in the league right now and they still went out to address one of the few weaknesses they had left. Chiefs have the most pass TDs in the league and are top-5 in passing yards and still felt like they needed to add another pass-catcher to compete. Philly have allowed the second-least points, tied for least yards, 6th in sacks, top-10 in pressures, and of course are undefeated... and went out and invested in their defense. And so on...

And frankly you could make an argument that while all three of the Vikings, Lions, and Bears made moves to improve their present, future, or both, we're the only ones who did neither today.

I understand the notion that perhaps we're not in much of a position to spend given our current record. Not a lot of sense in spending big on what might well be a lost season anyways but like...Does anybody really believe we'll be in a better position next year by electing to NOT make a move for any additions and holding on to those picks? It's awfully hard for me to see how we will be able to put together a team in 23/24 that's more talented than the 22/23 one. If not now, when?

Do you know Denver truly was in good effort genuinely willing to move him? Or were they demanding like two Day 1s to even start a talk?

Also, just remember that the Steelers were able to give up Claypool because they drafted a stud in Pickens. A guy that we could have had and would have given us a good one, two punch with Doubs. He was the most NFL ready receiver that wasn't drafted in the top 15, who could come in and contribute right away, and had the pedigree to be a stud X receiver. Instead we went with a small school project who will need to develop with an aging QB. I hope Watson works out, but Jesus.

I had Pickens as my favorite WR, so I agree. However, opinions of high ranking skill draft picks is a tough thing to cement as gospel...Pickens had some swirling character flaws out there, Watson did not. I would have chosen Pickens on Day 1 let alone Day 2...but that's a preference of prospects that no one will be able to definitively say who was more right until 2025 at least IMO.

Sure, it'll take time to play itself out, but one was clearly NFL ready and has been doing nothing but creating highlight reel catches. I'm a Georgia fan and the character concerns were BS, he was a kid with a little bit of a diva attitude, but even that was overblown. A ton of elite skill players have that trait and if they were that concerned about it, they shouldn't have drafted Wyatt.

Hard to say with any certainty but "sources" were saying they wanted a 2nd and 5th.

If the Packers really passed up getting a quality WR today (and being 41 minutes past the deadline at this point I assume they did), I'm done with this team for 2022. Gutey basically said 2022 is a lost cause.

The good thing is that frees up a lot of time on Sundays for me.

I'm signing out here. See you in 2023 after the season.

I can understand not trading away future pick(s) for hopefully immediate gain, but standing pat gets GB nowhere.

If Gute didn't seiously want to be a buyer then he should've been a seller.

Too many UFA's next year wanting big(ger) money than GB will spend on them (Tonyan, Lazard, Jenkins, Amos)... this was the time to get something for them. If/when they walk away GB may get '24 comp picks, but why not re-load sooner?

Yep, that's exactly what I was saying. Rodgers is 38 (39 next month), the cap situation is a nightmare, and you've got a bunch of free agents coming up next season (By my count: Amos, Cobb, Lowry, Crosby, Lazard, Tonyan, Reed, Lewis, Watkins, Jenkins, Ford, Nixon, Nijman, Leavitt, Wilson). Whatever "window" we have is closing quickly.

And it's more or less make-or-break time for this season. If you think we can get it turned around and we've got a chance to make the playoffs and maybe make some noise still...Then you're a buyer; knowing your window is closing you do everything you can to maximize that "now" while you can.

And if you don't think we can turn things around, if you think 3-5 is too much to overcome, if you don't think we'll be able to add enough to compete this year...then you're a seller. With our cap and free agency situation it's going to be very difficult to put together a better squad next year than we currently have and if this year isn't enough then next year SURELY won't be. At that point you might as well start looking into how to tear it all down and get set for the future.

If this is true there would have been half dozen team doing this deal.
I mean, *maybe* so, but the same is true for a lot of situations, no? Miami got Chubb for "just" a first and scraps. Chicago got Claypool for a second. Pittsburgh traded a conditional 6th for Williams Jackson III and a conditional 7th and Washington was heavily reported to be ready to cut him outright. Chiefs got Toney for a 3rd round comp pick and a 6th. And so on...There are a lot of deals out there for which it's easy to look at and think "A lot of teams would have paid that," but obviously only one ever does...

I suspect it's probably more likely the case that while Denver might've been asking for more than that, we were probably only interested in giving up SIGNIFICANTLY less, so it's moot.

Between using a 1st round pick on the heir apparent to Rodgers at a time when we could have used help for him, to ...extending Rodgers when the heir apparent wasn't apparently the heir apparent, to trading away Rodgers' best receiver and surrounding a QB who relies on precision and years of acclimation in his twilight years with projects and question marks, to guaranteeing an expensive 5th year to a bad safety, to turning over a young, talented defense to a boring, vanilla retread coordinator, the Packers are operating with no rhyme or reason to anything they do.

I haven't been able to say this truthfully in a long, long time, but the Packers are currently a very poorly run organization.

Gute and the Packers offered Adams more money, Adams chose to leave don't peg it as they traded him away.

I'm actually happy that the Packers didn't trade for anyone, but a bit disappointed that they didn't move anyone from the Packer roster for future picks. I don't see this team making the playoffs and even if they did, they wouldn't go very far. Do we need better WR's, TE's and OL? Sure, but save the draft picks, be smart in free agency and build for 2023 and beyond.
