What positions do we need to draft next year and why?
My opinion:
RB: Need a workhorse, or at least someone big to take at least half of the load from Harris and complete the stable. That's assuming they don't immediately disintegrate as soon as they step on to Lambeau. The value just isn't there to take a back in the first. Never overpay for skill players.
S: MD Jennings CANNOT start, and McMillian is a bit of a box safety. Burnett has great ball skills, you like him in coverage, but he has limited range and gets fooled playing the run. Need to find someone in the same general mold as Burnett, or a true, rangy FS to compliment him. Burnett and Jennings are also in contract years. Seems like the Lebeau 34 is predicated on excellent S play, and our communication in our secondary needs to take a huge leap forward.
TE: La Californa is supposedly reporting Finley is gone. Even if he's not he probably will be next year. Not one of the remaining TE is a decent receiver or match-up.
DL: Pickett and Wilson are in contract years. Pickett, who happens to be the only other NT on the team besides Raji, is aged and will probably not get renewed, and Wilson is the only other decent run stuffer on the team. Worthy was supposed to develop in that regard, but with his injury, he'll probably end up way behind on his development. Give all the young boys some time. Length seems like a fad and an excuse at this point, but that's just my opinion. Still, you can never have too many big boys, right?
C: Some are not ready to hand the starting job to EDS. I can understand, but he will get his shot, and I don't see many guys in this draft beating him out. Gerhart and GVR I have no confidence in. C/G depth need.
WR: Jennings is gone, Jones is in a contract year, and Boykin and Ross are our 4th and 5th options. Ted almost never takes WR in the 1st though, and hasn't since he got here. We like guys that get YAC, run clean routes, and block. All of our WR tend to have big arms too for some reason. Speed need.
OLB: Moses can take the #3 role, but depth, quality depth, is still a must. depth/rotation need.
ILB: Hawk will probably cling to the roster for one more year til he's 30 and we actually save money by cutting him, but the only ILB on the roster (including Hawk) with the potential to be decent in coverage is Manning, who we've yet to see. Future starter need.
QB: I don't know a single guy who likes Harrell. Hopefully Coleman can show some serious improvement. MM likes to have 4 QB in camp anyway. Back-up need.
K: Just for competition, plenty of options. UDFA need.
FB: Kuhn is 30 and in a contract year. We only pay him to pass block on 3rd down. Taylor will probably take over after this year. "If you want to" need.
T: Sherrod is not an unknown. After Flanagan, I'm positive that this fanbase knows more about this injury than any other fanbase. How quickly we forget. He was on his way when he got injured, and he'll be ready to start by next year, but he won't beat out Newhouse this year, nor will anybody we draft. Sherrod WILL get his look though. Barclay will swing between G/T, and contrary to popular naivete, did not do well enough to start at RT. Besides, Barclay is not a LT, neither is Lang. Datko is still around. Bulaga may switch to LT, but I doubt it. Newhouse is less suited for RT, and Sherrod is utterly unsuited. They both see themselves as LT. "Deal with it" need.
CB: Some fans think we don't have a #1 CB. We usually grab a CB anyway. "Why not" need.
