It isn't just the fricking draft picks. Actually, for me that is the least of it. It is the
four-year, $188 million extension deal with Green Bay, including $136 million guaranteed, making him the new highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

The fiscal impact is something many fans in their foolishness will never understand because they’ll not “see the impact” in actual actions but it for sure will be there in inaction.

Those hoping for us to sign many or multiple of the guys with expiring contracts this year better buckle up because it simply doesn’t math….

And now we will have to try to replace those losses with guys in house or lower draft picks than you’d like having no day 1 picks for next two years.

I mean I get it too….he is if healthy the best impact defensive player that exists right now.

Yeah, that's what the best players in the NFL cost. If you don't want to pay players that money then you don't want the packers to have the best players. That's the good news about the packers not having too many players worth expensive second contracts...they can afford to pay a lot for Parsons.

What will be interesting is if we now move any of the expiring contract guys just to build picks because we are gonna need some replenishing in some capacity.

Enagbare for a 6th or 7th incoming type move maybe.

So paying players high guaranteed salaries guarantees their play?

Let me introduce you to David Bakhtiari and Jaire Alexander.

If a team is scared of players getting injured they’re not going to win many titles. You appear to be taking Jerry Jones side on this and history has shown that Jones’ side has been very wrong for the past 20+ years.

Schefter just posted we are in fact trading for Parsons….

Holy……

****…..

We give them two first rounders and Kenny Clark…
I am still in shock. Jerry Jones will say that he got a strong run stopper. Are Cowboys taking heat? Has Gute mortgaged the future?

Why am I taking Jone's side on this? He just fleeced the Packers for 2 first rounders and a starting DT, for a guy that they couldn't sign.

What I am saying is the locking that kind of money up into ONE defensive player, no matter how good he was in the past, isn't a smart way to build a team.

The next 4 years will prove one of us to be right or wrong.

We should have traded for Herschel Walker instead.

You can argue that it’s not a great deal for the Packers*, but it’s almost certainly a BAD deal for the cowboys. We might not have “won” but they certainly lost.
To say nothing of the financials, if you can give two firsts and Clark for Parsons, that’s a deal you make 11 times out of 10.
And a very good team adding a player like Parsons in all likelihood ensures those are late first rounders to begin with.

I hear all the time when people claim that Gute hasn’t drafted many elite impact players in the first - the rebuttal is “well we are usually drafting late in the first when there aren’t many blue chip prospects left” and/or “there are only 15 or so true first round prospects on average in a given draft, so when we’re picking there’s probably not even a first round graded player left. It’s basically line picking early in the second”

Well, good news then. Following that line of logic we basically just gave up two “early seconds” or two “probably not even a first round grade” players

(*I’m not making that argument personally but I guess I can see it)

Why not? Draft picks are all project players and he have all the project players we need. First rounders are a crap shoot. How many Micah Parsons have we drafted with a first round pick?
That is very true.

Their dt depth took a big hit though, even though Kenny was banged up last year, he was still somewhat decent, not as good as his standards, better than most!
Clark was our one bona-fide run stopper the last 8 seasons. This changes opponents game plans. I expect the Lions to use their strong run game more against us and try to stay out of 2nd or 3rd and long. Then they will use play action. Other teams will follow suit.
