Hindsight. BB probably shouldn’t have been out there. Was it a reinjury of his old injury?

Reed I thought neck right away. That sideways ricochet and the way he went down. I’m concerns to say the least.

I agree. I think if he’s on 1 side and Parsons is opposite it would be hard to Defend both guys.
Especially with our rotation of DTs.

Speaking of. I noticed when we have a full Dline, GB makes plays. As soon as I see 3 d linemen, GB starts giving up yards and points.

Let the big boys play.

we’ve got some good ones. Javon Hargrave didn’t even play today. He logged 22 Sacks over his last 3 complete seasons (1 season he missed a bunch of games)
Wyatt was quiet today though.

You can win a lot of games with a dominant pass rush, and a elite QB with elite weapons!
I don't understand how we ended up with such a weak OL. MLF likes to run first, plus you'd think Gute would want to protect "his" QB.

Well he thing I noticed is we didn’t have definitive locks at each position this Camp. Imo Partly because Zach and Banks were injured and GB was holding a competition at LG, RG, RT to see what’s what.
Also we obviously were not excited to keep Rasheed Walker on a medium $$ contract when we had Morgan going into year 3 and he’d be covered up again.

The bad part being the number of games of Raw experience at those respective positions was minuscule, so early in you’re going to have growing pains. The good being if you survive the first few games you’ll likely get a slow ascending upwards trajectory just from the newness fading. Like any job I’ve ever started I didn’t perform at peak performance in 2 weeks, it normally takes 4-6 weeks to be comfortable and 10-12 weeks to start hitting a full stride.

That’s my hope with these guys. Get a little better every 1-2 contests and keep progressing and learning the nuances of a newer position. Ideally you’d want 6-8 games to really get clicking imo. In hindsight it’s probably a bit presumptuous for me to expect great things Week 1-2. I can see normalizing by weeks 4-6 area and excelling late in the season (10-12 weeks) though

It is hard to build a line with later round picks today or even undrafted players. You can piece it but somewhere along the way you have to climb the ladder with linemen instead of always going after wide receivers and corners.

Yeah, IMO it should be more of a priority.

I think Gute has invested. It may have just been wrong and/or not developed wrong.

Morgan is a first rounder
Banks is a significant FA signing
Belton is a 2nd rounder
ZBB is a significant re-signing.

Im pretty sure he invested in Myers in the 2nd round as well.

So he's just incompetent?

Gute took over as GM on January 7, 2018.

Just looking at draft capital invested:

2018 5th round G Cole Madison
2019 2nd round C Elgton Jenkins
2020 6th round T Jon Runyan Jr.
2020 6th round C Jake Hanson
2020 6th round T Simon Stepaniak
2021 2nd round C Josh Myers
2021 4th round G Royce Newman
2021 6th round OL Cole Van Lanen
2022 3rd round OL Sean Rhyan
2022 4th round OL Zach Tom (at the time :p )
2022 7th round OL Rasheed Walker
2024 1st round OL Jordan Morgan
2024 5th round OL Jacob Monk
2024 6th round T Travis Glover
2025 2nd round T Anthony Belton
2025 7th round OL John Williams

Some other noteworthy "investments" (probably not all-inclusive)

2019 - 4 years/28m to OT Billy Turner
2020 - 2 years/11m to OT Rick Wagner
2022 - 4 years/68m extension to Elgton Jenkins
2025 - 6th round pick traded for Darian Kinnard
2025 - 4 years/77m to G Aaron Banks
2025 - 4 years/88m extension to T Zach Tom
2026 - restructure contract for G Aaron Banks
2026 - 3 years/33m extension to C Sean Rhyan

Don't quote me on this but I believe in the "Gute Era" the Patriots are the only team who have drafted more OL than we have. Now of course that only speaks to the number of picks spent, not the "value" of said picks, but it's something to keep in mind

Nice work. That looks pretty normal.

The first thing I see is 2 of our highest 4 draft picks (Morgan and Belton) at OL are just beginning year 3 and 2 of their rookie deals. Morgan missed his entire first year to injury, so really more like they are both in a Sophomore campaign.

Elgton and Myers were either good to serviceable. Elgton started strong but then kinda fizzled. Although we did yank him to Center and I’m not sure that was the most ideal idea. I’m hoping we didn’t make the same mistake with Sean Rhyan actually. Both seemed like good Guards and I’m concerned that it might’ve been wise to leave alone what’s been working good.

I really thought Jager would be our Center or at least compete with Monk at Center. He’s got the size and experience and had success there in college. I’m really hoping we’re not getting too “cute” moving these guys around too much. That’s ok if it’s injury related such as 2025, but might’ve been best to reset Sean to RG in 2026. Playing NFL caliber Defenses regular season isn’t an ideal time for using it as a training ground. The only player that has 1 season of snaps at any position is Banks and he’s not exactly the anchor or our OL

In retrospect. With Zach likely missing most of this season (my guess is all) If I’m playing GM? I’m going out and trading for a player with 3+ years of STARTING experience. Probably leaning at RT. THAT win bought us a Week or 2 to get someone in here and familiar while we get a better look at Belton.

At minimum I’m bringing in Kinnard as he’s already familiar with our scheme. Actually was surprised when we moved away from Darian and still had 10 OL.
