The Green Bay Packers pre season game with Tennessee Titan scheduled to be played at Lambeau Field on Thursday August 31 had to be rescheduled to Friday, September 1, 2006 at 3:00 pm
The NFL would not allow the Packers to play a game on Thursday Aug 31, there is not enough days (must be 5 days) between games in the same week, because the Packer play the Bengals on Monday Aug 28. NFL Rules states NFL team can't play a game on Monday and then play another game on Thursday. This NFL rule is to in sure a quality (not to have overly tired NFL football players) NFL game is played. Therefore it had to be moved to Friday. NFL would not give the Packers exemption from that NFL rule
Also because many Wisconsin High School play their games on Friday night, the Packers decided to play the game at 3:00 pm Fri. not to effect the attendence of State of Wisconsin high school games. The Packers played a Friday nite Packer game a few years ago and received much critiism from high school officials, who said the HS football games attendence was effected by the Packer game throughout State Of Wisconsin. This they said cost the High School much need $s for the athletic program.
Thus explaining the strange starting time 3:00 on Friday afternoon which happens to be the start of Long Labor day weekend and friday is working day for most Packer fans. As Packer President Bob Harlan said of the situation. you can't please everybody!! And it will not please many Packer fans!!!!!
