Raiders signed him - having one of his better seasons
It’s becoming common to see players move to another franchise (including moving to ours) and then having a bounce back season. Sometimes even a bounce back career. Another thing I’ve noticed is when a particular player returns to play their former team, it’s very regular to see them elevate their play. There’s something about a talented player being given a fresh start that makes me believe there is psychology behind that player seemingly raising their game.

Now I do believe part of that is just natural player growth or the Sam Darnold like standard protocol. Yet it appears some of that elevation is generated by the player reinvesting in themselves to lay proof that it wasn’t them, it was their former team holding them down.

There is also that the raiders had a bad offense and just as bad defense, especially in coverage.

And we also see players leave and NEVER be close to what they were....Preston Smith, Aaron Jones, Jordy Nelson, Cobb, Nijman, Lazard, MVS, Amos, Turner, Zadarius...

Few of those saw one year of decent production but most fell off the cliff....

Stokes has put one season together better than he played here, Rasul continued to deliver starting worthy play, Cole Van Lanen put it together after just not having a spot here, Runyan is decent elsewhere, Myers has continued same borderline benchable starting play, Adams is Adams and of course continued to see success.

I don't that you have a post to point to from 2023-24 where you (or any of us) were advocating for this. Runyan had been fine but not $30M fine. We all said good riddance. You and everyone else would be still ridiculing Gutekunst for overpaying him, because he wasn't going to get better here.

It's the Gary Sheffield effect. Some players need to go elsewhere to get better. Runyan was no different.
U wanted to keep him because I could tell even then he was better than Rhyan
