Howard will not make it past #12. Anytime you can add that much talent, you do it. If the NFL was ending after next season, I would agree a defensive player makes more sense. But in the long run, BPA makes you a much better team.

I agree that it's smart to select players that present the best value at any given point in the draft. That works best when obvious needs are adequately addressed in free agency though as teams are forced to put a bigger emphasis on positions lacking talent once on the clock.
