Per a report Allen would like to play in Green Bay. He is 6-6 270 and could fill the role that Mike Neal played last season in Green Bay. In fact I feel he would fill that role much better than Mike Neal did. he is 32 years old but he is also extremely motivated to win a championship before he calls it quit. Hungry players make a big difference. He had 11.5 sacks last season so he certainly has something left in the tank. I imagine he would sign for somewhere around 6 million per on a 2/3 year deal.

He seems miscast in our defense. I would love to have his pass rushing abilities but assuming we are sticking with the 3-4, which all indications are that we will for the most part, he will be playing standing up most of the time and that's just not really his game.

I would have signed him for our 2007 defense and welcomed him in the NFCCG against the Giants.

Jared Allen is a 4-3 DE pash rush specialist.. That's what he does best.. Would be better to use what you would pay him and draft and develop an ideal 3-4 5technique..

He could play OLB just as well as Mike Neal and allow Packers to use a 4 down lineman look. And if you heard MM the Defense will be using the elephant end position to better allow Nick Perry to make plays. I have no doubt Allen would be better than Perry in that role. I think Perry is gonna have a big season if he can finally stay healthy hes a good player they just need to switch him to the right side and Clay to the left. for some reason Perry is way more comfortable on the right side, the side he played in college, and it shows in his play. Watch the games he plays in the right side replacing the injured Clay. And one final thing to remember is TT once signed Jared Allen to a restricted free agent offer sheet unfortunatly the Kansas City Chiefs chose to match the offer, Allen preceded to have a break out year and was subsequently traded to the Vikings.

you mean 2007?

Allen's contention that he will "be with the Chiefs this year" since he indicated as recently as February that he wanted to be traded. The Chiefs tendered Allen, a restricted free agent, the highest-level qualifying offer, essentially a one-year deal worth $2.35 million.

He has yet to sign the tender and the deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets with other teams has expired. That all but assures that Allen, who can no longer negotiate with other clubs, will return to Kansas City,

I dont recall Ted signing him at all? I been searching for it

He did it wasn't a very big offer and it was before Allen was a known commodity. He was actually suspended for the first 4 games of the season the Packers would have had him due to 2 drunk driving incidents. Which shows you how highly TT thought of him. But in typical TT fashion he went cheap and the chiefs were able to match. I wanna say it was like 2 years 8 million or so, can't remember exactly though.

This had to be 2007

He has yet to sign the tender and the deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets with other teams has expired.

That all but assures that Allen, who can no longer negotiate with other clubs, will return to Kansas City, unless the Chiefs trade him.

According to that ESPN article, Allen never signed with anyone, and in same article they say
Allen has developed into one of the league's top young sack threats.
So he wasnt an unknown

Aaron Kampman did sign an offer sheet with the Vikings, but the Packers matched it, maybe you got the two confused?

Or---maybe your thinking of Tony Gonzales and how Ted was trading for him??? They had a deal, then at the last minute the Chiefs wanted more and Ted literally had no more time to send in a counter offer..

it was after the 2006 season in which Allen had 7.5 sacks. He broke out the next season 2007 after missing first 2 games due to suspension and had 15.5 sacks.

(eye roll)

This is a complete garbage report. JA has no desire to play in a 3-4 defense.

What's the point of agent leaking that then? It's not like it would drive the price up everybody knows TT is cheap unless he's paying his own players.

Wish I could see a report that Ted did sign him to an offer sheet, I am drawing a blank on it

At 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds, he seems to be a square peg in a round hole in terms of where he would fit in the Packers’ 3-4 scheme. Other than serving as a rusher in passing situations, how effective could Allen be as a two-gapping defensive end in the base defense?

According to the source, the Buccaneers, Patriots and Giants are among the other teams on Allen’s list.

The Buccaneers, ultimately, would appear to be the best fit, though they’re in rebuilding mode.

Lovie Smith is Tampa Bay’s new coach, and Smith hired former Vikings coach Leslie Frazier to serve as his defensive coordinator. Allen’s familiarity with Frazier’s 4-3 style makes that potential marriage a natural.

While, the Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud said on his radio show that Allen is not in the Buccaneers’ plans, the source said the Bucs indeed are interested.

Perhaps Allen’s wish list — and Green Bay’s inclusion on it — is a way to drive up his price for a potential fifth suitor, such as the Broncos, who have been linked to Allen.

The Packers are $28.9 million under the cap, with the Broncos $27.1 million, Buccaneers $23.7 million, the Giants $22.2 million and Patriots $14.8 million. (Update: The Dolphins, at $33.9 million under the cap, are a strong contender, as well, and might wind up his final destination.)

TT will rather bring back bums like Neal, and Brad jones... His players. Instead of getting proven impact players he takes pride on his draft and develop garbage that hadn't done ish as of late on the defense. I pray Matthews stays healthy .

I dont think he agent leaked anything, I think it comes from excited fans. The past 24 hrs on social media with packer fans they keep talking about getting JA. Nevermind it makes ZERO sense.

I posted a link earlier today where JAs reaction was noted by reporters when the mention of him playing in a 3-4 was brought up

LOL. It seems like there are lots of people here who would rather get some aging "big name" free agent every off season instead of signing guys like Rodgers and Mathews and Shields and soon Cobb and Nelson. You can't have all-pros at every position folks. You need "bums" like Neal and Jones and you need them to not cost so much that you can surround them with impact players.

I would welcome him though if the Packers don't get him, get him out of the NFC North. My wife hates him as a player and I know she was happy to hear she may not have to see him play for the Vikings again.

Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Catches breathe). Nooooooooo!!!!!!!! They will have a great defense if they find a safety.

Sure, the only thing standing in their way was an old pass rusher who can't play against the run. Signing Houston and Young were much bigger deals than this one. Allen is probably only going to be on the field for passing downs, which won't happen too much unless Houston and Young and Ratliff do their jobs. The bears linebackers are either totally unproven (McClellan is being moved there from DE) or looked lost last year (Bostic and Greene) or are getting old and injury prone (Briggs).

The way teams get better is having second and third year guys step up the way that Daniels did for us this year and hopefully Jones and Hyde will do next year, not by paying old guys to solve everything. The packers signed Peppers for him to make a few big plays here and there in big games, and that's something he's capable of with very little risk. Signing Allen for 15 mil guaranteed for three years seems a little desperate. They had zero pass rush on their roster and now they have more than zero, but who know how much more.

This was my thought as well. And as someone on Twitter pointed out, this move does nothing to help their atrotious run D from last year. Does it make them better? Probably, I won't argue that but I don't think this puts them in the conversation for the SB as they still have Cutler as their QB.
