It has been a much better week than wide receiver Greg Jennings could have imagined.

For starters, his wife Nicole gave birth to the couple’s third daughter, Ayva Nicole, Wednesday morning at 7:34 a.m.

“Three for three,” he said Thursday.

For another, he found out on Monday that X-rays and an MRI on his swollen foot were negative. By Thursday, the swelling had gone down so much that he was able to practice with pads on and come away with no ill effects.

“Does it hurt?” Jennings said. “Yes. But does it hurt bad enough to sit out practice or a game? No.”

Jennings said he injured the foot on his first catch Sunday, an out route on which he broke a tackle and turned upfield for a 30-yard gain. At the end of the run, Atlanta end John Abraham reached out and took Jennings down by his left ankle.

“The way my foot got caught when he made the tackle was kind of funny,” he said. “I planted and it kind of got stuck. I don’t know if you call that a sprain or what. It happened. The swelling is going down a ton. So I’m able to run on it and that’s all I care about.”

Jennings said he was worried about it on Sunday, especially after the game.

“It bothered me initially right afterwards," he said. "But it went away…well it didn’t really go away, but the swelling didn’t occur until after the game. In the fourth quarter, I started to notice a little limp jogging off the field after plays and things like that.

“But it didn’t really bother me a lot during the game. I felt it, it was a little sore. I knew once I took my (shoe) off, it was going to swell up on me."

On the plane ride home, Jennings had team physician Patrick McKenzie look at it because he was starting to get concerned given all the swelling.

“I went up to him and I’m like, ‘Hey, I need to know something,' " Jennings said. "He kind of felt around my foot and he was like, ‘Does this hurt?’ ‘No.’ ‘Does this hurt?’ ‘No?’ ‘OK, that’s good.’

“I’m like, ‘OK, that made me feel better.’ On Monday we got X-rayed and MRI’d and everything came back pretty good outside of the swelling.”

Jennings is expected to play on Sunday against San Francisco barring a setback.

In his last six games Jennings has 37 catches for 639 yards (17.2 average) and six touchdowns.

Here's the breakdown:

Miami: 6 for 133, 1 TD
Minnesota: 6 for 74, 1 TD
NY Jets: 6 for 81
Dallas: 7 for 80, 1 TD
Minnesota: 7 for 152, 3 TDs
Atlanta: 5 for 119.
Jennings now ranks tied for 26th in receptions (51), seventh in yards (822) and tied for third in touchdowns (nine) among all wide receivers.

Prior to the Miami game, he ranked tied for 30th in the NFC in receptions (20) and tied for 32nd in yards (316) and tied for eighth in touchdowns (four) in the NFL.

His nine TD receptions have averaged 27.0 yards.

He deserves everything that he's going through. The guy is having a great season and is one of our most consistent players. I wish nothing but good things for him.
