I think he simply should have stayed with Cologne. On the other hand, as an ambitious player as he was its understandable that he is trying to make it to a top tier team.

That would have been completely ok with me. He did well at Cologne.

Yep, I will settle for that - as long as we finish above Liverpool. ;)
But I think this still doesn't match the expectations for the most expensive squad in the EPL, does it ?
What do you think, should they have had more patience with David Moyes or are you fine that they sacked and replaced him with van Gaal ?
I still feel a little sorry for Moyes, beeing the successor for Sir Alex was truly the most difficult football job on planet earth ;)
Edit: Sorry, I forgot to say Welcome !

Thanks mhnessie.

I was extremely happy when Moyes was shown the exit. Cannot understand why Sir Alex believed he could take on the job at United. He is a ditherer and not respected enough for a job that size. Agree Sir AF was a hard act to follow but I can't believe we didn't go for Mourinho - who clearly wanted the job. He might not have been there for the long haul, but he was probably the only man who could have handled the transition & moved the club on. Really happy to have van Gaal in charge now though. A strong character who will get us back on top again & who can attract top players to the club.

On a serious point - the Europa League is not a competition that we should be settling for, but I honestly can't see us finishing outside of the top 4 this season - therefore Champions League football is back on the horizon. And, it is even more satisfying when those one season wonders from Anfield are languishing in mid-table.

Afternoon, y'all. Just checking in here.

Liverpool fan. I live in Liverpool 7/8 months of the year so I got to go to a few games last season, including the 3-2 vs Man City which was a lot of fun. Only managed to get to one game this year, although that's not necessarily a bad thing!

Welcome here sir. I don't think he have any other Liverpool fans here, but we do have an Everton fan here.

Welcome! as far as i know the Glazers did not want Mourinho because they thought he was too much trouble for them to handle. They instead went for the (safer option) their mistake.....im glad hes back where he belongs.

Yep, I must admit he is a brilliant manager & he clearly enjoys being at Chelsea. But I do believe that van Gaal will give him some serious competition from next season.
And, thanks for the welcome.

Thanks, man. I don't actually have a lot of animosity towards Everton so that doesn't bother me too much

I actually remember reading that Mourinho 100% didn't want to go to United, although I can't remember where. In any case, I think Mourinho would've been a pretty bad choice for you. He wins trophies, can't fault him on that front, but when he leaves, he tends to leave teams in a pretty bad situation.

Just kidding, he's a good guy who happens to be a Mod here, and he eats blood pudding. Quite strange. :p:D

Pre-game show just starting - Man United vs Southampton. Will pass the time until the main event later. United/Packers double would be brilliant.

Arsenal was dominant this morning. The Man U - Southampton game was enjoyable to watch. Southampton played very well today. A couple of close misses for United. Mata should've buried at least 1 of them.

Ah come on, I've seen similar videos of other fans and their teams before.:D
I remember a video, shot during the World Cup 2010 were many Germans werent able to name 5 players that were playing for Germany.

When Jay Leno hosted the Tonight Show here in the states, he used to do a thing called "Jay walking" where he would go around the streets and ask people about U.S. History or current events. It was unbelievable what those folks would say. I found that link above because I was bored and sitting in the hospital room waiting for the wife to come out of anesthesia. ;)

Views on Van Gaal vs Moyes?
After 21 games, they had the same points
Moyes' Utd had scored 1 more goals
Van Gaals' Utd have conceded 3 less
Van Gaal has spent £91M more than Moyes.

Not just based on those stats, but i really dont see the justification behind the huge love for LVG, Utd are so unbalanced its unreal. They still havent addressed the CB role, which baffles me. Young isnt a wing back. Playing 3-5-2 has ended Januzaj's Utd career in my opinion. A 3-4-2-1 would suit Utd much better, but would mean having to phase out RVP, as he cant play the lone striker role well enough.

I think there's a tendency to get too bogged down in points. If you look at the picture, United are 4th (3rd last weekend); this time last season they were... I don't know but it was a lot lower than 4th.

The side is unbalanced but anyone who watched Liverpool last season (or the Packers!) will know how well you can do with just an attack and, besides, they have an exceptional goalkeeper who's won them more than a few games this season. Given the money they spent, I don't understand them not bringing in a new CB but van Gaal's vastly improved the squad from where it was under Moyes and CB is (one would assume) the position of highest priority for this transfer window or the summer.
