I thought the Cowboys signed him after the draft to a 1 year deal at a minimum type salary?

I would rather see young talent get the reps. We have 3 pretty decent young receivers and a guy like Savion that Gute used a 3rd round pick on. While I understand your desire to have a Lazard or MVS deep in the rotation, simply because they are familiar with Love and the offense. I just don't know if that is what is best for a young receiving room. Both Lazard and MVS are on their way down and there isn't any "developing" of either to do.
At this point in their careers their presence wouldn’t impede any of our young guys I’m fairly certain

I wasn't really talking about presence. I actually believe veterans can be a good presence on a team. I was talking more about the fact that they would be taking up reps in practice and on the field, as well as taking up a roster spot. I think a guy like Lazard can be found at any time of the summer and even on a PS once the season starts and injuries start knocking players out. The advantage that Lazard does bring is his knowledge of the Packer offense and having worked some with Love. Still, I favor the WR room as is, if they stay healthy, and see what we have with some of the younger guys.

I have to think if we get to the middle of the season and have some guys injured and decide we want a “proven” or familiar option in a guy like Lazard… we can probably just pick him up if/when the time arrives. I don’t think there’s gonna be much competition for his services lol

If he doesn't play well; there isn't much of a point even if he can block imho.

I like our present grouping. In 2025 we had exactly 17 regular season games combined featuring either Watson or Reed. Unfortunately that’s the equivalent of losing 1 player an entire 17 game season. I have Reed and Watson as our top 2 producers.
Reed led our team in raw yards production for 2 straight seasons (2023,3024) and came out in 2025 running hot, until he busted his shoulder catching a long TD pass.
Reed had only 5 games in 2025 with more than 15% snap count. So we lost our #1 producer for 70%+ of last season. I doubt anyone would list Watson as our 3rd of 4th best WR last season. That combo is our 1-2 punch If we’re able to get BOTH guys playing most of the season? That’s a huge deal

Now that’s not to slight Doubs, however imo he was a recipient of an increase in targets and did a good job filling that role.

Golden and Savion being in season #2 also helps. The playbook should start feel smaller and the hesitation in their process smooths out. Also Matt can open up his playbook a little more with confidence and both move up the pecking order.

Skyy is a nice depth piece. When I’ve watched his film at KC, his movement are what I call..fluid. The second a play breaks down? He’s highly adept at finding holes and creases. He’s got an uncanny ability to take a 5 yard comeback into a 10 yard gainer. He did that in college quite a bit and you see that aspect transition in KC. Several scouts said he’s “a QB’s Best Friend” due to his ability to bail a QB out when under duress in the pocket. He underperformed in 2022-2023 (for a RD2 draft pick) then in 2024 he started slow again and was lost for the season after about 5 games to a core injury. In 2025 he was barely used on Offense, but was traded last second and kinda thrown to the wolves at SF49ers, posting more than 18% O snaps in just 1 Contest. His drops went away and he caught 71% of targets. Year 5 with an entire Offseason program in GB I’m hoping things slow down.
Skyy probably should’ve transferred to another higher grade University as he only had about 2 years of playing time at Western Michigan and even then at the MAC level. He was considered a graduating Sophomore at lower end Conference competition.

Indeed. But part of McGee's success was that he had this carefree, aloof attitude. Come show time he never felt all the butterflies other players did. So playing was more routine, 9-5, for him. But then when he was elderly he wanted to repair some of his roof. His wife told him not to climb up on the roof. But Max, nonchalant as he was, thought nothing of it. When she was out he went up and fell to his death.
I had no idea that's how Max died. Thanks for the news milani. Well, I guess he died the way he lived - nonchalant and enjoying life. Your description of him is spot on. He was one of those rare ex-Packers who I enjoyed listening to in the broadcast booth. He was just a very likable guy - similar to Al McGuire. Those two guys got paid to simply be themselves.

That said, it's best not to be nonchalant on a ladder much less a roof, especially at my age.

Great analysis OS on why Watson and Reed are the two best WRs on the team. And good perspective on the # of games lost collectively to injury last year - basically one WR out for the entire regular season. I never looked at it that way.

I will miss Doubs. He was a very reliable route runner with great hands. There just wasn't room for him - he was the odd man out. I wish him the best.

Sounds like Moore may be more than just a return guy. I like that description (a QB's best friend). I'd be very happy if he contributes in the passing game.

Who are you referring to gopkrs? Sounds like Lazard. If it is, I agree. For a WR to get a roster spot, he has to do more than block.

Lazard may have a few more good years in him. I don't want him back because he represents an earlier era of Packer football. And there are probably other guys out there who can do as well. And that's IF Gluten wants to add to the WR room. I'd like to see a vet added, mostly for depth and change of pace. Not a huge deal either way.

Hoping to stay healthy rarely works in the NFL. The depth currently on this team scares me to death. The OL lost 2 of their top seven. I am not arguing they should have kept either one of them. I am just stating IMO on paper this OL room is not as plug and play ready compared to last season. They added a player and drafted a player. Replacements are younger and less experienced. The RB room all depends on Lloyd. Even if he is finally healthy, he hasn't played in 2 years. IMO he is still a wild card. Again, I am not arguing they should have kept Wilson. The WR room has lost 2 of their top 4. Golden should step up seamlessly IMO. I need to see a lot more from Savion than a gadget guy and I have next to zero confidence Moore will make any impact as a WR. I do like the UDFA from Florida. For the record I am not arguing they should have kept either guy. Doubs was my favorite but became too expensive. I liked Wicks also but thought they won that trade big time. I also realize that most teams have depth issues in multiple places. Maybe I have just been spoiled by the WR depth that Glute gave Love the last few years. As long as Kraft comes back to form, I have no problem with the TE room. Musgrave could still turn out to be a nice #2 and I like Whyle more than most.

Well said. I recall that in the many years when the Packers had a consistently good OL, it was because the starters were solid, and the depth at the position was also solid.

That's not the case now. I feel good about the starters - Morgan, Banks, Rhyan, Belton, and Tom. But you're right, counting on a team to stay healthy for 17 games is not a good plan. Guys will get injured.

Gluten did add to the OL in the draft. Forget the name but recall he can play all of the interior positions.

And this also assumes that Banks will play better and be more dependable than his first season in GB. That's a stretch.

So I imagine Gluten will add to the OL, with an UDFA and/or a veteran acquisition during cutdowns, AND that those guys will make it to the 53.

Thanks Joe. I’ll also miss Doubs, he was on some shaky ground at one point but ended up rising up against whatever adversity he was facing. That discipline earned him a nice chunk of $ and opportunity to really move up a spot on his depth chart. If he stayed in GB? He’s either #4 on depth OR pulling targets from Golden. GB fulfilled their usual break-in period with Golden. I think they’ll let him loose more now.

For disclosure on my analysis on Skyy. Hes mostly going to play Teams imo. However he proved with a 1,280 yard college season that he does still have upside as a receiver. When I watch him I see a raw version of Randall Cobb. He’s slightly thicker and slightly faster than Cobb. I’m talking movement skill. Cobb is a proven Probowl level guy so I’m not suggesting he’s going to live up to that level. We don’t need Cobb level, we need a guy who can do some Jets sweeps or end arounds to utilize that returner quickness as Skyy is formidable in space. Deceptively quick but not so much king speed fast. He’s going to burn you in the 10-yard space and challenge you to run him down before the paint. Maybe find some holes for chain moving plays and quick down n outs etc. Slot stuff. If he’s a 200-300 yard 1 TD guy I’m happy. That makes him affordable to retain $$ for us next year.

I'm hopeful that the starting O Line will be able to run block better this year than last. But I'm also thinking they better stay pretty healthy

If our receivers physically hold up. Lazard is kind of a hybrid. Part TE, part WR. I think we could have used him after Kraft went out last year. He may have been just enough to make the offense a bit more physical. And we sure could have used it in those last 5 losses.

Yup. I was going to say they could give Amari Rodgers another chance, but I see he retired from Football in January, at the ripe old age of 26.

I think the loss of Kraft and then Fitzpatrick was a blow to a thin TE room. Musgrave has been a major disappointment thus far and once again, a high draft pick that the Packers keep depending on to blossom and hasn't.

Keep in mind the WR room also has young '25 PS guys Neyor & Shepard. Both are big-body guys with solid collegiate production. If they learned while on the PS may surprise in camp & make a roster push.

I really liked Will Sheppard last year after we picked him up as a UDFA. I noticed he jumps off the page over guys in preseason work. He failed his physical at Tampa Bay and wasn’t signed, then GB picked him up later and he bounced a roster cut, to landing on our PS, to the active Roster and back and forth. It fits his draft profile most considered him a RD7-Priority FA. I like to call those Smack types “8th Rounders” if there was such a thing.

Sheppard played 4 years in the SEC for Vanderbilt. Freshman on Teams. He posted a pair of 600-700 yard seasons and garnered a 2nd Team ALL SEC award at Vanderbilt in 2022. He flipped to the Big 12 in his last season of eligibility, becoming a Colorado Buffalo. He finished College adequately, logging nearly 2,000 yards and 23 TD’s in his final 3 seasons.

In some ways, he reminds me of a taller (call it poor man’s) Davante Adams. I say poor man’s because Davante dominated in the lower Mountain West. Sheppard Beat Adams with a Massive 40.5” vertical, good short range burst, matched Adams 4.3 shuttle and both had very middling long speed (also like Davante a 4.56 to 4.59) He tested at 6’2.6” 203lb, so he has a nice, tall athletic build. He can also play at PR and lined up both Slot and outside so he has versatility. Consistent ~700 area production across multiple seasons at the highest level of competition. Likely a good WR3-4 ceiling and floor on Teams with availability to produce like typical fill in production. I’d love to at minimum see him make our PS if not our WR6. Year 2 player going into his 2nd season with us on a futures deal.

Actually that’s not entirely true. Don’t take it from me though. I didn’t write this article. Also PFF had Elgton and Sean at 25th/40 31st/40 respectively at Center. Considering Elgton had lots of work at Center in 2024, the disparity is tiny.

Also our Center, Jacob Monk week 17 was the highest graded Offensive player on the field that day. That was against a red hot MN starting Defense also. Monk played lights out level. Monk can also play Guard as a 5 year starter at Duke. He’s YEAR 3 in the NFL.

You also might have missed that Travis Glover returns. He was our 2024 RD6 Tackle who has extensive experience playing LT After being the second longest tenured Tackle in program history (55 starts) He also played his last full season at LT and was the #1 ranked LT in the Sunbelt. He was gaining attention of our staff in house prior to injury and I recall Matt speaking to him being a player on the rise and how discouraging it was when he tore a Lat D. muscle just before Regular season (August 2025). He now comes into his YEAR 3 Pro Camp as one of our top options at backup Left Tackle. Kinnard is an option but he played primarily RT, TE and a few snaps at LT in 2025. He’s also A YEAR 4 Veteran now. It’s possible he’s a more dedicated RT if Glover impresses again at Blindside.

Behind them you have 2025, RD7 John Williams, who broke the USC record for most games played on OL in program history. Those things go a long ways into getting an earlier transition to Pro. Going into year 2 We really only have 1 true rookie at this point. That’s Jager and he’s more an interior G/C, where we are already covered up with Monk, Williams and Jennings fighting for a Roster spot. We are nowhere near as bad of shape as you’re portraying.

The RB room all depends on Lloyd. Even if he is finally healthy, he hasn't played in 2 years. IMO he is still a wild card.
Not really. I mean surface level you could argue yes. Don’t think for one second that of Lloyd can’t go we give up at RB. GB has plenty of Monetary and Draft Capital to perfect a trade or sign a good Veteran from FA.

I wouldn’t be shocked if we even upgraded into a household name at RB if Marshawn is out. We’d have to prepare for not just this year, but the next couple. There are several RB’s in FA coming off 2025 injuries that should be considered in that Sept-Oct range. That doesn’t negate the option of working a trade for a surprise high caliber RB2 that would fill or + exceed a Marshawn Lloyd type role. In order to firm up RB, We have the collateral, the capacity and are just waiting to see if there’s also Need there. Brian won’t leave the RB position unattended it’s too important.

Yeah I'll be happy if all he does is improve the return game on STs. He will provide some competition for Williams and that's a good thing. And with Williams currently on IR, it was smart for Gluten to add Moore.
