Capers was fine until he wasn't. He came in with a history of success, turned some things around for our defense, and helped us win a Super Bowl. As time went on, offenses around the league continued to modernize and become more innovative, Capers was an old school guy and at some point just couldn't keep up and it became time to move on.

The difference with Barry is he has absolutely zero history of past success.

He is a clueless buffoon! I would not keep any of the coaches under him either. Time for a fresh start there. Get rid of that 3-4 crap too!

or make it a "real" 3-4 with 4 "real" linebackers/safties who play in a row and who can rush the passer. ALA Steelers back in the day. Always loved that defense.

One of those threads that I keep around for personal rebuttal to those who continue to use the "they're professionals", they're getting paid to do this", or, particularly "they know more than we do" when talking about coaches and management.

22nd in sacks
28th in yards/rush

31st in plays/drive

So, I found myself asking myself " self I says, I wonder if they fired Barry, would Alexander miraculously be healthy enough to play? When I get an answer, I will let you know.

I agree something strange is going on with Alexander. It isn't just an injury situation anymore when he's listed as "questionable " a bunch of weeks in a row and then doesn't suit up.

Needless to say we will be in the 2023 highlight film for the Bucs.
Maybe Buccanear FO will now think they are set at QB and they will focus on providing Mayfield with weapons in the draft. Condemning them to mediocrity for a few seasons.

So that is something cool to come out of this ugly beatdown.

Really? Not sure I have seen posts of that nature.

I recall some pointing out statistically (and surprisingly) the defense was rising above mediocrity, but they hardly sounded endorsing(ish).

Where are the Joe Barry defenders that were so adamant just a couple of weeks ago that Barry wasn't an awful DC?
9th in total points allowed!!
Oh wait, that’s wrong. That was as of two weeks ago.
11th in total points allowed!!
Oh wait, that’s wrong too. That was after last week.
17th in total points allowed!!
Okay… that’s more like it.

He's proven that the mid-season uptick in D rankings was a mirage and reality has set back in. I'm off of his bandwagon forever as he's used up his last "benefit of doubt" with me. Not afraid to admit I was duped. ;)

In a lot of cases stats just do not tell the story. They just put your thoughts on a roller coaster game to game. You can coach for stats just to keep your job imho.

That's what the Bears will continue to do. They have their franchise qb..LOL!! In fact the other 3 teams in our division continue to do that. They don't know how to draft and develop qbs! It's very telling when you see Love has more victories..and should be alot more..in his first season as a starter than Fields..who is in his 3rd year. If only we knew how to get a competent, professional defensive coordinator!

Barry is not a coach who will get more out of a defense than the sum of its parts. He isn't creative or bold enough. So what you put in, personnel-wise, is basically what you will get out (or maybe less).

So now you have this situation in the back 7:

-Campbell has regressed horrifically and should be benched.
-Quay is not progressing.
-You're playing a return specialist, a rookie 7th rounder, and a practice squad guy at corner.
-You're playing a couple special teams pieces at safety.

There is not a single, solitary guy in our secondary right now who should be starting. Not one. Valentine has potential but he isn't ready yet.

And this isn't a pass for Barry-- it's the confluence of factors. Downright terrible personnel + a coordinator who is incapable of finding edges to get the most out of a unit.

For contrast, look at Flores in Minnesota. He does not have anything resembling a star-studded group of players. But he is bold and innovative and dictates to opposing offenses. His blitz schemes force offenses out of a variety of run looks and force them to have answers, which puts them in a box.

In other words, he brings value to the table as the coordinator. Barry does not.

I am a tad bit confused. Trust me I do not need any posts to prompt me to have a conversation with myself.

People also said the personnel we had didn't match his way of doing things. I don't know how that happens. I'm starting to get suspicious of our GMs.

In any case, I am utterly sick of this team having lousy defenses that hold them back. As if it were the defining aspect of the Green Bay Packers to have a soft defense, even though they use most of their draft capitol to fix it. It's been long enough, they need to finally get this straightened out.

From my view packers are just not ready for prime time yet. What we have seen this year is flashes of what they can become in another year or two.
They have a core group of young guys that can grow, improve, gain the necessary experience that are the hallmarks of SB contenders.
I'm sure upper management is also not happy with how things have gone this year so I expect( hope) changes will be made to rectify things.
For me I'm ready to just sit back and enjoy NFL football as the playoffs approach.
Since my whole family are Eagles fans(except me of course) I do have another train to get on this year.

You all know that we are wanting Joe Barry fired and when that happens, Brandon Staley is just going to be hired.

It's one thing if a guy falls down and leaves a guy wide open. The last 2 weeks..there were guys wide open..EVERYWHERE!! It's not just the young guys...Campbell sucks in coverage and our safeties and corners are always confused!
Guys like Campbell and Smith should NOT be covering WRs. Our DBs looking confused should be the fault of our DB coach too.
