Hey all, the prices are high for all hotel stays. Is it worth paying that premium so you can walk to the stadium? Should I just save my money and drive 30 minutes to Lambeau from Appleton? I would be saving about $800 if I chose to stay in Appleton.

* Why is it worth it to stay close to the stadium?
* Is Parking difficult?
* Any suggestions?
* Tailgate suggestions?

walking too and from is nice, especially considering if you might be in an impaired position once the game is over LOL If I was going to games all the time, I wouldn't spend the 800 bucks extra. But if it's more of a once or twice every few years trip and i'm there for the entire experience? Take my money. Then you're not worried about anything. You walk out your door and you're at your destination practically, can take in as much as you'd like or go back and take a nap or whatever you want.

But i live near Appleton, I always leave a good 4 hours before the game, almost no traffic there, get to my tailgate spot and have almost 3.5 hours of grilling, eating and drinking before the game. The drive is pretty easy, once you get in that 2 hour before kick off area, it's a slower drive, but still not bad. I'd rather relax at my tailgate than in my car, but that's me so i leave early. If it's not snowy it can be about an hour and a half back to appleton after the game.

But it is not a difficult drive and there is a lot of parking within a few blocks of the stadium.

What game are you going to?

I live near Appleton as well. Not that it matters for someone staying in Green Bay, but I take the back roads on E through Freedom, WI. I've never hit traffic that way and it's easy in and out.

I usually park and tailgate at Bethany Church. They have two lots. One is closer and has more tailgating activity. The upper lot is more tame and you can chill without being cramped. The best part is it is just a donation. $5-$10 to park there all day.

I've also parked at the Ace Hardware. That lot is $20 and has a lot of tailgating if that is what one wants to experience. I've also skipped the tailgating and just went to Krolls.

Stay in Appleton or Neenah. I do it every year. Would never pay those prices just for that luxury even though I could once a year. Just have to be aware that if it snows the route back after the game can get rough. What I do after the game is walk over to one of the restaurants west of the stadium ( Or you can stop in one of the bars off Holmgren Way ) Traffic starts to ease up by then. You could also slide down Lombardi Avenue west by the airport at Oneida Casino about 3-4 miles away. Even if you are not a gambler there is Lombardi's there. Nice place to eat, drink, and watch sports on the TVs.

There are also buses running from the valley to the game. IIRC The Bar has one. Most traffic leaving GB after the game is on 29 west, 41 south and 43 south. All are 4 lane freeways once you leave the city. Traffic I've experienced is no worse than a really busy morning commute.

We just had this discussion last night with my group of six. We plan to tailgate, wait out the heaviest traffic as usual, and then drive west on Hwy 29 to our hotel in Wittenberg. The prices for rooms are pretty high around Green Bay and we can't stay at our buddy's sister's house. The key is that two guys stay sober for the late night drive.

To answer your specific questions:
* Why is it worth it to stay close to the stadium?
Convenience is key. Being able to walk back to your hotel after the game is great. You don't have to worry about driving, traffic, etc. As Mondio said, if you only go to Green Bay every once in a while then I would spend the money if it was within my financial means.

* Is Parking difficult?
Parking is not difficult. You need a pass to park in the Lambeau Lots. Tailgating lots around the stadium are $30-$40, decreasing the further away you get. However, there is TONS of residential parking around the stadium. Expect to walk 6-12 blocks depending on how early you get there. We usually tailgate in one of the lots near Anduzzi's and Stadium View Bars on Holmgren Way. There are a couple of $20 and $30 lots and plenty of atmosphere.

* Any suggestions
Wear plenty of warm clothes. Being outside in 20 degree temps is just fine when you are walking around, but is a little different when you sit on cold metal benches and cold concrete for 3hrs+. Dress warm with a good hat.

Thank you all for the info!

I should've also asked about tailgating options and what time should I arrive there for the Sunday Night game!

Appreciate it!
