So it's being reported the Brewers offered 3 Top prospects. But all Infielders. The package was Pena, and either Jett or another top 100, plus one more player. The Tigers were shopping for pitching and a top Outfield prospect at the deadline, so declined their offer. The Tigers are loaded with promising young Infielders, so I'm glad they went with the Dodgers offer.
Thanks to you and Pkrjones for the addl info on the Skubal trade. Sending the #s 5, 7, and 17 guys in their farm system is expensive. For the Brewers it likely would have been a three-month rental. The Dodgers will pay Skubal what he is worth at the end of the season and keep him. So it's not the same situation as the Brewers, who would have been mortgaging their future for a WS run.
Milwaukee is the only team Tracking 100+ Wins through the 70% of the season mark. Would be nice to separate from the Cubs a little. Chicago has had a few hot streaks as well and they seemingly won’t go away.

It sure seems that way weeds. I recall that last year they had a good regular season and then rounded into form for the playoffs. Toronto gave them a good run in the WS, but the Dodgers are just too deep.

As deep as a team may get and show those results through 162 games that " short series " effect is always a possibility. Some of the deepest teams have been put down in the WS and even in the playoffs.
Sadly, the Dodgers make every team look pedestrian when the playoffs roll around. I much prefer the balance in the NFL. Big market teams still have more resources, but every team works with the same amount of cap to fill their rosters. And revenue sharing kept the NFL from being a 5 or 6-city sport.

Recall that goofy strike season in which one slipped by to the Yankees. It got Steinbrenner all excited about expanding the postseason. He did not realize that baseball was not a winter sport.
I still wish MLB would end the regular season after Labor Day weekend and have the playoffs in September. Better for the players and fans certainly. The owners are not gonna give up 25 or so games though. Too bad.
I wish they would start the season 2 weeks later and finish by Sept 25. But as you said these misers want their $$$.
Good point. Starting the season right around April 1 isn't necessary, and ending in mid-Sept would be a good trade off. But the owners still lose 25 games of revenue production. They just won't do it.
