All I remember was I had John Brockington in the first round.

Only 2 CB's taken in round 1, that has to be a record? I have to wonder if Gute is salivating.

To be fair though with McCoy knee issue and overall the top shelf not having many not shocked - I’d have bet three and been high, but the second tier shelves are LOADED in this class at CB….today is gonna get good

I expect a run. Most teams could use another CB or 2.

After round 1, I'm pretty sure Cisse gets the call at #52. It's tempting between Miller and Cisse (assuming they are still on the board at 52). I think Gluten goes with Cisse at CB because he already added Hargarve to the DL in FA. Miller does have the Georgia pedigree that the Packers covet, so who knows. I still think it's Cisse.

That's not to say he doesn't need to take an iDL, he does. This draft has depth at the Packers’ biggest area of needs, so Gluten should be able to draft at a position where a trade or FA don't work out.

Nice work. I'd be very happy if Miller and/or Dennis-Sutton were available at 52. Miller has that coveted Georgia pedigree, but IMI Dennis-Sutton is the better player.

That said, if CB Cisse is still around at 52, I think he's the pick. Reason - Gluten has partially addressed the iDL by acquiring Hargrave.

Even so, it would be damn hard to pass on Dennis-Sutton........

Nice job Pkr, thanks.

A "what if" question for you - if Miller, Hurst, and Lance are all there at 52, or even if its Miller and one of the WRs, would Gluten be more likley to take the WR, having addressed iDL with Hargrave?

If it were me (thankfully, it's not), I'd take one of the WRs. Reason - iDL has been partially addressed with the Hargrave acquisition.

And just my opinion - the Packers will have to win with offense this season. Too bad because I also think teams with elite Ds win SBs. The Packers are probably a year away from having a shot at an elite D. Best case they are 5-10. They do have a shot at having a top 5 offense.

Anyway I'd grab Lance or Hurst at 52. (Full disclosure - if CB Cisse is still around, I'd take him over all three. (I'm being a bit contradictory here.......).

My prediction for the Packers first draft pick....no matter what number it ends up being or what player....

- 50% of the board will say that Gute could have waited 2 rounds to get that guy

- 25% will say they have never heard of the player

- 20% will say it was a good pick, but.......

- 5% will say Gute nailed the pick
GM is a thankless job during and just after the draft.

You made a nice catch on round 1, only 2 CBs selected. I think it's usually around 5. So there may be a guy on Gluten's board who has dropped. If Cisse is still around at 52 I like him, but there may be a guy Gluten has ranked higher.

But if your guy, Dennis-Sutton from Penn St is there, well damn he would be hard to pass on.

Yeah and if nothing else, it just means more CB's get taken ahead of Gute and #52, leaving other players that the Packers might really like.

Thanks Pkr. Becasue Gluten addressed (somewhat) the iDL with Hargrave, I'd rather see him take Hurst or Lance over Miller, assuming all are available at #52.

IMO the Packers will have to rely on their offense to win consistently in the upcoming season. The defense, especially the CB group, is not top 5 - maybe 5-10 once Parsons and Wyatt are back.

That being the case, adding a likely "near-impact" WR makes sense at #52. It bolsters the offense, and adds a little insurance for Golden. Golden looks very good, but he only got 40-something targets last season.

One caveat - Poker noted that only two CBs were taken in round 1, which is kinda mind-boggling to me. It's possible Gluten has a CB in mind who has or will drop to #52. In that case, he'll probably go CB.

A few 1st rounders fell into round 2 (DT McDonald, injured CB McCoy, CB Hood) which will add excitement tonight. Good players may get pushed back to 52 because of this.

I'd take Miller over the WR's if all 3 sit there. If a CB like McCoy, Hood or Cisse gets into mid-40's I could see Gute trading up & grabbing.

Hargrave adds interior DL "juice" to the pass rush, but GB still needs a run stuffing massive NT like McDonald, Miller, Orange,...

Gotta think that the paycheck helps ease the pain.
No kidding. There won't be any Go Fund Me sites for the Gluten family.

Not sure what his comp is. My guess is it's around $10 mil/year, same as MLF. I was fine with a new contract for Gluten. MLF? Not so much - but hey, he is a very good offensive play caller/designer. And continuity outranks change with a team this good. So it was smart that Policy extended both guys.

That's an interesting way to address DT and CB. I don't know much about Miller, but he has that Georgia pedigree that the Packers so love. And why not, given that some very good CBs dropped?
