I thought some might be interested in how this year's Packers compare with earlier times in the club's great history. Here's a list of where the Pack was at the same point in previous years, at 1,5 and 10 year intervals going back to the early days. You can get all the details on past Packers' teams, seasons and news on a great site for Green Bay fans: Packershistory.net.

Interesting that the midseason records you list come out to an average winning percentage of .528.

The Packers were 79-10-1 at midseason of their Championship years ('29, 30, 31,36, 39, 44, 61, 62, 65, 66, 67, 96, 2010). Some seasons were 10 games, some 11, some 14 and some 16 games. That midseason total is a winning percentage of .877, which would mean today's teams would need to be 7-1 at midseason to be on par with those teams. The 2010 team was also 5-3 at midseason, but needed late season wins against the Giants and Bears, and a loss by other teams to get the no. 6 seed for the playoffs. That team never lost a game by more than 4 points, and had the no. 2 defense in the NFL. We've got some work to do to get to no. 14, that's for sure.

Going back by decades from 2014, only the 1944 team won the Championship so your observation is spot on. Even the 1964 team under Lombardi failed to win the title. But 4 of the teams in the seasons remembered did make the playoffs.

Never thought much about it before but the National football league in its infancy was more of a Great Lakes-Midwest area thing. I might have to look into when it expanded enough to reach both coasts and the gulf.

Yeah, the megabusiness the NFL has become had really humble beginnings. Baseball and college football were the favored national pastimes and few thought pro football had any future. The clubs started in mill and mining industrial towns as an interest of "the common folk." There's a George Clooney movie, I think called "Leatherheads," which is about this early struggling period in the 1920's.

But just think, our Packers are the only one still around from those beginning days; at least in their present location and form.

1919-2014--- The Packers have won more games than any other team. However---1921-2014--- Packers are second to the bears.
