"INDIANAPOLIS — To make a football point, Ted Thompson used a basketball reference.

When the Green Bay Packers’ general manager was asked at the NFL scouting combine whether he’d consider using the No. 5 pick in the draft on a quarterback, Thompson said he wouldn’t rule anything out.

“The Portland TrailBlazers once upon a time decided that they had to take a big guy, and they were picking No. 2, and they took Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan. How does history judge you with a pick like that?â€

IMHO they Have to go defense with their 1st one or two picks.
I would be very disappointed if the Pack chose a QB with their 1st pick whether Brett comes back or not.
I just don't think it is that imperative at this point in time to get a QB in the 1st round.
The draft is alot like marriage, it's a crap shoot.

If they choose the absolute best player available they will get an impact player. If they purelly try to fill a need, they may end up reaching. The higher you draft, the more likely it is to take a player that doesn't fit in that place if you fill a need. Take the best player. If it's Matt Leinert take him. If it's Williams or Hawk take them. Whatever you do, take the best player.
