Players to watch tonight

There are two very obvious players who we will be watching tonight: #12 Aaron Rodgers and #11 B.J. Sander. Here are some others:

#36 Nick Collins--With a solid performance as starter, this rookie will become the front-runner to lock up one of the safety positions.

#35 Arturo Freeman--After the mini-camps, he was considered to be the front-rummer at safety, but in training camp he seems to have slipped back into the pack, and he did not distinguish himself against the Bills. He needs to make a statement sometime soon, or the Packers will go with the young guys instead.

#27 Michael Hawkins--Everybody's favorite new DB, including mine. I would love to see him grab that second cornerback spot. It would be good to have a guy with some flair in our defensive backfield.

#90 Colin Cole--Was a monster against the Bills' #1 offense, but strangely, I didn't read any articles about him this week. Everyone will take notice if he plays that well two weeks in a row.

#99 Corey Williams--We need him to replace Cletidus Hunt.

#79 William Whitticker--Rookie 7th rounder gets a start at guard. I like the way the coaching staff is giving all these guys extended time at the position, instead of rotating them in and out quickly. So I don't read too much into Whitticker starting, but if he turns out to be just as good as the vets, why not play him? He'll be cheaper and will have more of a future.

#87 David Martin--Bubba never gets hurt, so this is a rare chance for Martin to prove himself with the #1 offense in a game situation. I'm not exactly holding my breath, but let's see what he can do.

#82 Ben Steele--Still a work in progress, but appears to be improving. If he plays well, he could pass up Martin in the preseason.

I think Ferguson needs to start showing something too. We need better play from him this year. He's been invisible in camp so far.

The O-line needs to show us that they can gel and show us how the last scrimmage was a fluke.

Name to watch: BJ Sander. If he has a poopy night don't be surprised if we see a FA Punter in next week to add some pressure to him. (Side note: I noticed the Vikings have two punters: Darren Bennett and some kid named Dorsch. Dorsch was up there with Sander as one of the top punters in NFL Europe. I can't believe the Vikes are going to keep two punters. I don't want Bennett but if Dorsch is released it would be nice to see him push Sander).

That must be Travis Dorsch, who tried out for the Packers last summer. I think he was the one with the big leg but no consistency. Maybe the Vikes are considering him as a kickoff specialist. If Sander craps out again, I expect the Packers to go with another veteran, as there are a few of without teams right now, including good old Bryan Barker.

Carroll, to see how far has he come, and how far does he have left to go?

Roy Manning. Has had an outstanding camp, and I think he can be better then Paris, but I want to see how he does in game time.

Chris White, the undrafted rookie center. Coaches have started to rave about him more and more.

Marviel Underwood, to see just how far along he is.

James Lee and Donnell Washington, have heard both up and down things about them in camp, hopefully they step up in game time.

Terrance Murphy, I think he will be one hell of a pick!

Aaron Rodgers, just to see where he is so far into camp.

Junis Coston, who I think could be the next Mike Whale.

and..... HAWKINS, HAWKINS, HAWKINS!!!! Can't help but like the man. :D

HOWEVER, up here in Canada, I don't get ESPN, and they aren't showing the game on TV, so I'm gonna rely on the people in this forum (exculding SW and P@ck66) to get an account of how the game went. Man, only if I had satellite...

Bummer that you can't see the game. Terence Murphy is hurt and will not play. I don't have much hope for Lee or Washington right now. I'll be pleasantly surprised if one of them turns it around. Lee seemed like a long shot to begin with--he couldn't even start for Oregon State. Manning made one or two good plays in the scrimmage, so it will be interesting to see if he can defy the odds and make the team. I'm also hoping to see good things from Marviel Underwood. I would love to see both him and Collins earn starting spots as rookies. I've heard about Chris White too, but with Flanagan and Wells locks for the top two spots, I don't know if the Pack can keep three centers on the roster. White may be a practice squad candidate.
