Is that how they are selling it? :roflmao:

Same thing they said when they dolled out the Bahk and Alexander contracts. ;)
The alternative is to just not have good players so you dont have to pay them much so you can save money.

I am as cheap as the next guy and would be a very conservative GM. But you have to understand, these guys are very rare. Maybe 2 or 3 in the league at any given time. Im astonished we even had the opportunity.

Like I said, I get what Parsons is and how good he is. I said the same about Bahk and Jaire, I do not like investing that kind of money into a non-QB position, especially when so much of it is guaranteed. Just way too much risk on 1 player. I hope I am wrong and Parson propels the Packers to 5 SuperBowl wins and top FA's want to come play for the Packers for whatever they can afford to pay them

Guessing he didn't drink one drop of alcohol after the deal was done! :D

Is he more happy about the contract or who it is with? Asking for a friend. :coffee:

To a large degree, I agree with you. I would rather acquire three 7's than one 9. But this is a 10. We haven't had a defensive 10 since Reggie. Someone who can take over a game.

1: The Bahk contract wasn't a good contract because of his age and shouldn't of been handed out. Parsons is 26. It's not a good comp

2: Jaire isnt a bad comp but are you really arguing you think paying young All Pro players top dollar is a bad idea?

3: The Bears won 7 more games by trading for and paying Mack. The Rams won a SB after trading for and paying Ramsey. If your going to cherry pick bad contract examples im going to cherry pick good contract examples

4: Injuries are always worry with every player but can we stop acting like his play dropping off, if he stays healthy, is in any way a concern? Hes a 26 years old All Pro thats, versatle, plays multple posotions, has been one of the most double teamed player in the league while leading the league in pressure rate and one of only two players to have 12+ sacks his first 4 seasons in the league (Reggie White being the other). In no way is he a player about to hit the decline barring injury. In fact hes "just" entering his prime

There's risks with every investment and these investments play a very violent game. Doesn't mean you dont invest in a good investment

A better example is JaInjurie. At one time he was considered a top CB in the league and the Packers DID pay him top dollar. They did the same with Bahk.

Neither player earned their top dollar contract. Neither player finished that contract. What both players did do was give the Packers headaches in the cap department.

I would have less issue with paying top dollar contracts if they weren't guaranteed. Guaranteed money is what gets you into cap hell and the Packers just repeated that mistake with Parsons.

Only way this trade and contract works out "well" for the Packers. Parsons plays at a Pro Bowl level throughout his contract AND stays healthy. You tell me, what are the odds of that happening? I will tell you the odds of having to report his guaranteed money, as well as the loss of 2 first round picks and Kenny Clark, that is 100%.
I understand your point. Spread resources and there is valid argument to that.
This is why AGE was a really important factor. He’ll be 29yrs old when his contract expires. Micah does not have a concerning injury history. It’s not unrealistic to think he’ll average 14+ games per season. If that happens imo off market value he’s;
2025- -$7Mil “heavy to market”
2026- -$3mil heavy
2027- Even Steven
2028- +$3Mil Value (guys of his caliber will be getting over $50Mil)

So Roughly he’s $7Mil heavy across 4 contract years or less than $2Mil per season. Thats peanuts to have him here

Now. There’s risk in an eggs in 1 basket approach. Although I’d argue to make this contract worthwhile? We need 1 Super Bowl by 2028 imo.

PS. I think there’s a reasonable chance Micah could net us a RD1 selection in the 2028 draft. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if we netted a Top 20 selection in a trade!

The Rams won a SB after trading for and paying Ramsey.

Really? So hiring McVay, trading for Stafford, Von Miller, as well as signing Beckham had nothing to do with it?

The Bears won 7 more games by trading for and paying Mack.

How was there record in year 2, 3, 4 and beyond with Mack? I will give you a clue, 8-8 was their best finish and they never made it out of 2 wildcard rounds with Mack.

So yes, Parsons will improve the Packers defense, if he stays healthy. I am looking at the long term investment into Parsons, not just the short term.

Honestly, for me it isn't about being "cheap". Every team plays under the same Cap rules and thus has the same amount of money to spend each season. So for me, it is all about being cap wise across many years and many players.

If you had $100 to spend at the grocery store, would it be wise to spend a huge chunk of it on Beer and Candy and leave just enough to scrape by on bread and milk?

The investment that the Packers made with Parsons only pays off if a number of things happen. Parsons stays healthy, Parsons play doesn't drop off and the Packers can surround Parsons with 52 other quality players, on a limited budget. If all that happens, Gute will be a legend!

Of course other moves make a difference. Who the **** said otherwise? lol

Guess Reggie getting paid top dollar at the time and comming to GB shouldnt be pointed to because Wolf traded for Favre.

As for long term investments they got better AND younger. I get it. Eggs. One basket and all that. But the idea of never paying a young All Pro and pointing out one example were it didn't work out (jaire) and another where the guy was old so the comp doesn't work (Bahk) as why you shouldnt pay them while neglecting every other time teams made the right decision to pay young All Pros top dollar and it worked out is simply a bad faith argument.

Based on his history with the contract he's leaving, we can only count on Parsons for 3 years. In the 4th year, he's going to do the Packers just like he did the Cowboys. Figure his guaranteed money is going to be a pain in the end.

Well if it was a concession stand?
Beer and Candy sells better on Football Sunday!

Curly Lambeau wore #1 and it's "unofficially" off limits. Wonder if Curly's great grand daughter will grant permission? ;)
I hope not. Parsons doesn't belong in the same building as Lambeau. Lambeau did it for the love of the game, Parsons does it for the highest dollar figure he can get and he doesn't really care whom it is who pays.

Absolutely. Let’s go full spectrum and look at not just negative though. As that’s not the net result.
If he plays similar, what type of Draft collateral will he be worth when he’s finished year 3 and just turned 29yrs old? (recall Davante Adams scale as he was 30yrs old when he traded to Raiders and use his “2 All-Pro seasons and 3 Probowls”. Highest paid non QB like Davante. What’s his draft collateral for rights to his services? Is he worth more? Similar? Or less?

I've seen this brought up across the internet. "This is exactly like when Wolf signed Reggie". No it isn't. First, the Packers were mired in a loosing culture. Players didn't even want to come to Green Bay. Reggie changed that. Green Bay suddenly became a place to come and play. THIS was probably Reggie's biggest contribution, long term to the Packers.

Second. The Packers didn't give up a player and 2 first round picks to acquire Reggie. He was a Free Agent.

Third. Reggie accepted a 4 year deal for $17M. That's roughly $38 million today when accounting for inflation. That is $38M for 4 years, Parsons is getting paid more than that for 1 year.

Nice try though.

Not far off from.what we just gave up since we kinda fleeced Dallas here. FYI though this is an extension so he'll be 30 when he enters his final year.

I can guarantee you that if Curly Lambeau was offered $188M to move to Dallas and start an NFL team there instead of Green Bay, he would be on the next train with a stettson and new boots within the hour.

Jesus christ do you really want me to go on to list every big contract handed out that teams didn't regret?

We are going to be here a while.(Just like cherry picking every bad contract would take a lot of time). Doesn't change you should invest in young great players

You've been cherry picking and then end with "nice try" when called out for it but continue on with continually pointing to Bahks contract

If never paying a young All Pro top dollar is a smart idea to you then have it. It's definitely an idea
