Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I was merely informing the other commenter that Ed Policy is who decides if there is "change" at head coach, GM, or both. He kept his options open in making the decision to not extend their contracts.
One would be naive to think that if this team underachieves again this season, that no heads will roll.

They may do well but not go all the way. Injuries play a big part. Detroit went 15-2. They were prime to win the SB. But their injuries finally caught up with them. But the fault is not on Campbell or the GM. Now if after a couple of seasons the team flounders at 7-10 or 8-9 then change is possible. The league has a lot of strong teams even without a Micah Parsons. And they will have a say in this.

We can agree to disagree. No "after a couple of seasons" about it. If this team goes 7-10 or 8-9 this season someone should be, must be, and will be fired. Again, we can agree to disagree.
Let's focus on Detroit. That should be the only focus currently. One game at a time.
This season is about "urgency." Everyone involved knows the expectations.
This gets real right now, no time for talking about: "Maybe after a couple seasons we may change something, if things don't go well."

Good summary CW. This trade reminds me of the Lions trading Stafford to the Rams. The Rams got their SB and then crashed, making the picks traded to Detroit very valuable, even Goff played better. And Detroit drafted well and became a contender as a result. Win-win.
But in this case the Cowboys are getting two late first round picks. From a draft capital standpoint, this looks like a steal for Gluten. I don't think I'll ever understand why JJ made this trade. After making Prescott the highest paid player in the NFL, paying Parsons got harder. That's still no excuse. Jerruh stepped on his **** with this trade.
(And yeah, Gluten had to trade Clark. I really like Clark - a great NT and a great player and fan favorite. He had an off year last season, and DLs do not age well. Gonna miss Clark, regardless.)
But the Packers paid a very high price, in terms of real $$$ and cap space for Parsons. It's all or nothing, and I love the trade and Gluten's willingness to take an acceptable risk. The Packers will have to resign a good number of their players starting next year, and this move means fewer home-grown players will stay. All the more reason for GB to bring home a Lombardi this season.
Kinda ironic because the Packers desperately wanted Khalil Mack a few years ago. We both know where he went!
Two late first round picks and Kenny Clark for Parsons is close to a steal by Gluten. Dallas fans must be fuming, especially after the Doncic trade. Neither move sits well with Dallas' NFL and NBA fans.
Anyway to answer your question - yeah I'm very happy with this trade. Opponents have to account for #11 on every play. That will elevate the entire defense imo.
Yeah that's well put. Gluten has been masterful at looking out two to three years in building this team. He pulled off the Rodgers/Love transition w/o missing a beat.
This is no time for doubts or "yeah, but".
This trade for Parsons is focused on the NOW. It carries some risk, but imo it's an acceptable risk. If this were Texas Hold Em (ironic), Gluten just pushed all his chips to the middle, holding two aces and getting another ace in the flop.
I love the trade. Bring Detroit on!

My takeaways on this shocking news:
Staff must feel very comfortable with the quality of interior d-line play to make this move.
Philosophically, I'm not a big fan of the trade, and I'm most definitely not a fan of the contract extension details I've seen. I don't like giving away 3 for 1 as a rule. Far too much risk for my liking. Every player in the league is one play from becoming a journeyman or less.
Parsons- I probably have the lowest opinion of him as a player of anyone on this forum. From what I've seen when I've watched him, I just don't think he is even close to having the game impact that Watt and Garrett do. I see him as more of a stats collector which is good if you're a fantasy football geek.
Hafley- has his work cut out to get the best out of what he now has to work with. I'll be watching the play of the interior d-line very, very closely this season.
All that said, I'll be holding my breath that Wyatt and Parsons don't get hurt. I hope like heck this works out, because if it doesn't it could become a debilitating disaster with very serious future financial considerations for this team.
P.S. There is also going to be some reculturizing efforts that need to be made with Parsons. Dallas don't look anything like Green Bay, Toto.

Gluten has always taken a long view when building this team, with long view being two to three seasons ahead.
Make no mistake, this is a trade for the NOW, this season. Is it risky? Well yeah but imo it's an acceptable risk. Gluten had to give up relatively little for a 26 y/o "generational" player. Works for me. The money seems exorbitant. But in this NFL, Parsons won't be the highest paid non-QB for long.
The Packers are all in on this season. We can talk about future seasons only after this one is done, hopefully with another Lombardi in hand!
I respect your opinion Pike, but disagree here. Certainly this trade can be "what-iffed" to death. But the trade is about winning a championship NOW. Gluten has taken the long view to build this team, but a huge gap remained on the defense. Parsons closes that gap, and makes the Packers a legit contender for a SB.
I agree that the play of the inside DL will need to be solid, without Kenny Clark no less. I sure hope Stackhouse is the diamond in the rough.
But the Edge/LB group is as good as any in memory. I love the aggressiveness. Gluten pulled one on Jerruh. Dallas fans must be furious.

Agree. This is Jenkins last year in G&G. And either Doubs or Watson gets traded, probably Doubs. And yep, part of the price in acquiring Parsons will be counted as players lost next season to FA.
But that's next season. This trade is about this season. All in. Love it.
The Hadl trade, under any light, was desperate and costly - two first round picks, two seconds and a third.
Poker is right - Hadl was by no means washed up, or even declining when the trade was made. Even so, it was an act of total desperation by, I think, Dan Devine, or maybe Starr. The trade extended the horrible play for probably the next five seasons.

The trade for Parsons reflects the uncertainty of the play of the Edge group. One of the intangible benefits of this trade is that it will make the play of LVN, Gary, and all the Edge/LB groups better. Opponents will have to account for Parsons on every play.
Agreed. Even without the trade for Parsons, I really doubt Policy would make any changes this significant in his first year as prez.

That will change next year. I can't conceive of the Packers letting Reed walk in FA. But who knows? It's understating things to say the Parsons' deal will have an impact on keeping players in GB next year.
There has been talk of a Doubs trade for a while. It's inconceivable that they can pay Reed, Doubs, AND Watson next year, not to mention other FA-eligible guys.
It would help immensely if Golden can ascend to the #1 spot in one season, but it would make things much easier. Between WRs and TEs, the Packers have a lot of talented receivers. They can't pay them all, and Sean Rhyan, next year.
Seems very possible that Doubs gets traded in-season, while he can still fetch some draft capital.

Reed is under contract thru '26, so Gute can "concentrate" on Watson & Doubs futures in GB after '25.

If we are making a superbowl run; I can't see us trading players that will likely help us get there. That would include Doubs, Q and Walker.

I keep looking, but I can't find anything about the money that is going to be paid by the GBP for the trade. I don't see it on NFL.com or ESPN, just to name some credible sources... Not saying it isn't there, just having trouble finding it.

That makes it much better. I guess I have to point out that there are several xlnt pass rushers on other teams and it hasn't translated into post season success. Just saying. Going to be interesting how we use Parsons. He is kind of a hybrid. Awfully quick and strong. I certainly don't want to go back to those recent years where teams ran it down out throat.
