    Brandon Chillar

Thick deal for a possible backup.. 2 years 5 plus million.. but that should hush the people that want some activity..

    Re: Brandon Chillar

it does sound a little much at first but if you really think about it.

2.6 million dollars per year for a starting NFL linebacker is a steal. he was the starter in St. Louis. and he will have the opportunity to be a starter here.

depth and competition, it does a body good.

He could beat out Brady Poppinga, or just back him up.

This move will only make our D stronger.

    I like it.

    Re: Brandon Chillar

Now we will see some great competition at a starting position between Poppinga and Chillar. I like Chillar and I am looking forward to see what he can do as a Packer.

    I agree Trippster!!!
I think adding Chillar could heat up competition, which is GOOD!
Besides........what a great name for a cold Green Bay player CHILLar!

I feel a Michael Jackson song coming on.......
"For this is Chillar, Chillar night! Better watch out now you Bears fans cause he'll put out your QB's lights!"

    Here's the full jsonline article:

That'd be sweet, imo. Give Kampy some plays here and there to breathe, and Jenkins some competition, too!!

Yeah, FA's prefer successful franchises over the Crapinals. :D GO TT!! WOO!!

IMO, our D just went up a notch. Yes, a whole notch!!

Whoever wins, it'll be good for the team. It's good to have backups who are capable starters.

I like the move, as others above have said this creates competition, and either Popp or Chillar will be a good option for us.

I wouldn't say that yet, but I think this move has the potential to take our D up another notch.

If Chillar or Poppinga (through competition that will now be fierce) become above average in covering TEs then this move will help our D in many ways.

"I think ultimately at the end of the day he could have had the ability to get more money elsewhere," Ivler said. "But he was comfortable with what Green Bay had to say and he realizes it's a winning program and a great organization and he wants a chance at the Super Bowl.

"I think that of all the teams that were talking to him when we got down to the nitty gritty, the Packers have the best shot at that. He wants to be on a competitive, winning team. That was absolutely a big thing."

    Love it.

Thanks PIB. I like seeing a more dynamic D, one that has more situational roles used. This should be interesting in '08. One problem I had with our D is when we played top tier teams, we had problems putting pressure on opposing QBs. I hate seeing opposing QBs having too much time to throw.

Poppinga was a liability in TE coverage, so hopefully Chillar could help there. Would be awesome to see 2 pass rush specialists. I wasn't crazy about Kampman getting 94% of snaps at his position. He seemed to wear down later on in the season.

The details of the contract haven't been release. A lot of the money could be due next year and that would create the option for the Packers to cut him.

I do like the move because the Packers now have an interesting camp battle between Poppinga and Chillar. Really the Packers are now 5 deep at linebacker with Hawk, Barnett, Poppinga, Chillar, and Bishop.

I actually read some crap on another site about how TT isn't spending money. A pretty big article posted by somebody. I'm sure those who saw it will know what I'm talking about. Anyway the article kind of went out of it's way to mention guys like Brandon Chillar and Kris Wilson. Well one down.

Some more details on the contract:

The two-year deal Chillar signed was worth $5.4 million, according to (Chillar's agent) Ivler, and consists of another $1 million in incentives and escalators. Ivler said that before the first year of the contract is over, Chillar will have earned $3 million in base salary and incentives.

Swarmin' Mormon vs. The Pillar of Chillar

That's going to be a great battle to keep track of during training camp and pre-season.

Is that 3 FA signings and a re-signing this year so far?

This offseason is going well so far.
