Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the NFL's competition committee proposed a new window after the Pro Bowl for teams to make trades. Members of the committee proposed a two-week window where teams would be allowed to trade a veteran player. The period would start the day after the Pro Bowl and would have to be for a veteran player with time left on his contract. The reason for the new period is it allows teams to trade a player that the team would normally release due to a large roster bonus the first day of the new league year.

Sounds ok, but it would be nice of them to push back the trading deadline in the middle of the season and then the Packers could swing a deal for a receiver to gain some depth.

I think they should take it a step farther and move the in-season trade deadline at least until the midway point of the season, late October/early November. By that point, teams would have a pretty good idea where they are headed for the season and you may have more trade activity than under the current system.
