I think Franklin was better than solid. At times he was dominant. More than that, he is an emotional leader on the field which is something this defense needed more than anything.

Gary was a liability at times. We need to decrease Garys sack total by 2 as he prevented 2 sacks last season, when he got in the way of Micah Parsons. And there maybe more similar plays I missed.
I'm certainly not gonna miss Gary. He looks like he's checked himself out of the NFL. Maybe he will benefit by playing for another team.

Same with Q, except I like Q. The fit just wasn't there, and both sides were frustrated. A change was in order.

I do like Franklin, a lot. And the D does need an emotional leader on the field.

The JS has an interesting article today on the history of Cox Jr. Apparently the guy was full of talent coming out of HS but seems he got in trouble and was an UDFA. Seems like he's having a great camp, and with Parsons out, a great opportunity to prove himself in real games.

Anybody have additional intel on this guy? I didn't know much about him until I read this JS article today.

I just remember that coming out of college, there were some off-field issues that basically knocked him out of the draft. Then I think that he got injured his rookie season. All the accounts that I read at the time said that he could have been a 2nd round pick. I haven't seen that yet, except in limited bursts.

Yeah he did have some off field problems in college that took him from a 5-star recruit out of HS to an UDFA. That's a big fall.

When guys have so little discipline, it's a big concern. So I'll believe he's put that behind him when I see it. And with Parsons out until sometime in October, he'll have a chance to prove it. I hope he's successful.

All that said, he's been in Gb for two years and I don't recall reading anything to suggest he still has discipline problems.

I just know that a recurring ? in Cox Jr’s draft profile was he was dismissed from 2 programs. Yet since he’s been in GB he hasn’t had 1 issue I can recall. Might just be he was a young guy growing up.
He’s a 3rd year player now, so lots can happen in 3 years. Could just be he’s got good counsel telling him to keep out of trouble. I like to break it down as how financially harmful 1 incident or statement can be. Like cost $20Million type $$ or more. Per wrong syllable said by that’s $13,880.43 in lost income. Each wrong decision costs on average $154,823.55 ! If we want to get in trouble wait about 8-10 years and then go cause trouble!

Makes you want to keep your mouth closed and tip toe around town!

You're correct. He has not had any public incidents since coming to Green Bay.

I listened to the Packers.com podcast on my bike ride this morning. While talking about LVN's latest injury, and Parsons of course out, that other guys were getting extra reps. They happened to spend some time talking about Cox. He has battled injuries his first few seasons but is poised to show what he's got. Their main take was that he is a monster on the pass rush but not good enough setting the edge against the run. Therefore he's just a 3rd down pass rush specialist when there are injuries, unless he shows improvement.

Thanks for the update EG.

I didn't know LVN was hurt. Anything serious? He'll be needed with Parsons out.

It sounds like he hurt his shoulder against the Steelers, missed the practice Sunday, but was back practicing on Tuesday. It sounds like a minor injury that merely needed some rest.
Preseason can afford caution. There are plenty of players who want reps. September is when it happens.

I agree. Let the guys who still have to prove themselves play. PS isn't the perfect time to do that, bit it's better than just TC.
