But it's soooo early....

WHO CARES!!!

In honor of the first official CFP Rankings for this season, I figured it was time to go ahead and get serious about our next class to don the Green and Gold. While a lot will change all the way up Draft Day, I'll officially start my scouting process here. At every major junction leading up to Las Vegas , I'll post an update.

FIRST MOCK - FIRST CFP RANKINGS RELEASED

TRADE!!!!

Green Bay trades 28th Overall - 660pts
Cincinnati trades 33rd and 65th Overall - 845pts
28th Overall Pick - CB/S Shaun Wade - Ohio State

You guys better go ahead and face the facts now. You want a big time WR; I want a big time WR, but at 28th, they're all gone. There are some risers in the rankings but none of them earn a 1st Round Grade; not yet with me, and I doubt yet with Gute either. So without further adieu....
33rd Overall: Kenneth Murray, ILB - Oklahoma: He's a sideline to sideline inside linebacker who's in the space race known as the Big 12 which should make him much more adept to coverage than his predecessor in Blake Martinez.

60th Overall: Monty Rice, ILB - Georgia: Somewhat of a reach at 60th for Rice(I have him ranked about 75-80) but when you're picking in the back of the Draft you either take your guy or don't take him at all. If Martinez is not resigned Murray and Rice would combine to make quite the showstopping duo on defense. Monty is the thick run stuffer who also has some burst and twitch who can play in the zone when necessary. I think in the long run Rice out plays Murray, but if they come up together even better.

65th Overall: Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR - Liberty: Finally!!!! A WR!!!! Gandy-Golden is 6'4 and knows how to use his size effectively, high points the ball with the best of them, and is a redzone matchup nightmare.

92nd Overall: Marlon Davidson, DE - Auburn: Another slight reach but Davidson is the guy. He has the versatility to move inside as well so he's another chess piece for Pettine to play with along the line. Kenny Clark needs help guys so our LB Corps can get to the football. Davidson replaced M. Adams' at Auburn, he'll do it again here in Green Bay.

134th Overall: Terrance Steele, OT - Texas Tech: I can't imagine the day where Gute doesn't take an OL in any Draft, but I don't believe he's going to settle for a bunch of late Day 3 guys routinely as Ted Thompson did. Steele could be a steal in the 4th Round. While Bulaga has resumed form, and Alex Light has played admirably as well, we need to prepare for the future.

171st Overall: Logan Stenberg, OG - Kentucky: We've all had our gripes about Billy Turner, but this pick could be more about Lane Taylor than you think. I expect Gute to address the Guard position in Day 3 to see if he can grow the position for relatively cheap Draft capital. "Stenny" is a large mauler type Guard who plays with a nasty streak and should open big holes for the RBs.

194th Overall: LaBryan Ray, DT - Alabama: His stock is all over the place, maybe the CFP will give him more time to shine. I don't think Lancaster is bad by any means, but a little competition couldn't hurt. Ray could be a good player on a stacked team who just couldn't put enough highlights together before graduation.

206th Overall: Damar Hamlin, CB/S - Pittsburgh: Josh Jackson could find himself cut or released if he can't improve, but as a 2nd Round Pick Tony Brown may be more susceptible to the axe if he can't clean up his act on the field. Hamlin has played all over the defense for Pitt but due to his lighter frame a permanent move to CB may be necessary for the NFL. Either way, I could see Hamlin stealing snaps from both Jackson and Brown at CB and even replacing them on Special Teams.

226th Overall: Tanner Muse, S - Clemson: Muse is a good safety for the college game, but he has coverage limitations for the NFL. However, I think he'd be excellent as a sub package swiss army knife. He's 6'4 and 225 with a sharp understanding of coverage as well as run fits. He could be the "3rd ILB" we draft late. If he can put on 10 more lbs, which is very possible given his length, a permanent move to ILB might be the best for his NFL projection. With Pettine's love of safeties I could see him finding a nice home with a niche role in Green Bay.

241st Overall: Benito Jones, DT - Mississippi: Benito Jones is "listed" at 326 lbs. He probably sat in a sauna for hours to get to that weight, I'd say 340 lbs honestly. As a situational run stuffer, who does have some surprising agility and moves for his size, he could be a nice early down stuffer to give Kenny Clark a break on long drives.

242nd Overall: Matt Hennessy, C - Temple: Hennessy has played all 5 positions on the offensive line for Temple, but I wouldn't exactly call him versatile. His best position is Center, maybe a backup Guard in a pinch. Hennessy would make an excellent Practice Squad candidate as he goes through an NFL conditioning program and adds some more bulk and functional strength.

Next mock will be probably Rivalry Week or Conference Championship Week.

Thanks for the effort. Don't know much about these guys, but 2 ILBs early is a good idea. Hope we don't go for tall WR. We need shifty little guy. Last few years you can get a good one in 2nd or 3rd round

That's the real kick I get out of this, educating the board. I was mocking Savage, Sternberger, and Jenkins early on and watched them and others sift to the top. I love the evolutions that happen throughout the process.

The slot WR is one I'm trying to understand a little better. I'm not 100% sold that Gute wants a smaller guy there. I probably won't get a good grasp on his thoughts until the Combine.

If we're being honest, I think you mocked about every player in the draft to GB at one point.

Unless Light & Patrick are long-term future starters I hope Gute doesn't spend 2 high picks on ILB's. We need one in the top 3 picks, but O-Line still needs some work. Bulaga won't last forever and with a young guy at RT can Turner be counted on to reliably "cover" for the occasional "help" needed next to him?

Top 4 picks, IMHO, should be in any order: OT, ILB, WR, and OG. Sprinkle in a 320+ lb. DT, S, CB, OLB and/or TE and the draft fills some prospective holes.

I think ilb is our weakest position. An upgrade here will have the most impact on the team. To your point, OT will be a big need sooner than later. Bulaga is nearing the end and Bahk has not played at his normal level. Not sure if it's a temporary lull due to new scheme or not.

I think Bulaga hangs around until 2021. Terrance Steele is a STEAL in the 4th Round. I'm worried he might rise to the 2nd or 3rd after an outstanding Bowl game, All-Star, or Combine performance. This addresses the OT position without spending too much right now. Light and Patrick can develop for another year at least, and if Steele supplants either or both he(Gute) looks like a genius and now he has a luxury 2nd or 3rd Round pick in 2021.

SECOND MOCK - CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK

27th Overall: Tyler Biadasz, G - Wisconsin: He's arguably the top offensive lineman in the class, and the best interior lineman for sure. Billy Turner be damned, move over big fella. We need a major push up front to give Aaron Jones space to operate and allow Rodgers to hold on to that ball as long as he likes.

59th Overall: Kenneth Murray, ILB - Oklahoma: I haven't 100% locked in his draft stock, but with the expected run on WRs in the 1st Round(which we'll unfortunately miss out on), as well as QBs he could possibly hang around for us. The space race that is the Big 12 is exactly what we need in the middle of this defense, and Murray has that experience and ability.

91st Overall: Marvin Wilson, DE - Florida State: I can't stress enough how important the defensive line is to Pettine's scheme. We currently have a rotation of players alongside Clark and Lowry who just aren't getting it done. Insert Wilson who's been one of the lone defensive bright spots in the ACC that doesn't play for Clemson.

TRADE!!!!

Green Bay trades the 133rd Overall Pick - QB K.J. Costello, Stanford (49 points)
Miami trades the 170th and 172nd Overall Picks (29 points - Comp picks have no assigned value)
170th Overall: Jordyn Brooks, ILB - Texas Tech: He only plays with one gear, full speed. He has led Texas Tech in tackles two years running in the spread offenses that are the Big 12. I look for him to climb the depth chart relatively quickly and join Murray in the middle of the defensive front.

172nd Overall: Brandon Aiyuk, WR - Arizona State: Possible bold prediction that Allen Lazard gives Gute some sense of security and not having to reach for a WR in the 1st or 2nd Rounds. Aiyuk is a slow riser who can lineup in the slot or the outside. He has a career KR Avg of 27.1 and a PR Avg of 11.7. which checks the box of a much needed return specialist. Even still, 1200 rec yds and 8 TDs in the Pac-12 was all I needed to see. GMo may not last with this pick

178th Overall: Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR - Liberty: Mocked him a little too high earlier but I like the idea of going back to back on Day 3 finding some "complete WRs" who don't come with a lot of hype. 119 yds against Syracuse, 174 yds against Buffalo, 162 yds against BYU....I believe this guy is ready to compete on a larger stage. I know we like Kumerow, but I don't think he measures up with Gandy-Golden.

197th Overall: Terrance Steele, OT - Texas Tech: Steele upgrades the back end of this offensive line by bringing his talents to Lambeau. He's intelligent and he has great technique. 2 years from now I could see him replacing Bulaga.

205th Overall: Jack Driscoll, OT - Auburn: I LOVE SEC offensive linemen. Driscoll transferred to Auburn from UMass and became a starter from Day 1. He's faced some of the best defensive lines in all of the nation. Granted Bakhtiari isn't old, but I could see a combination of Steele and Driscoll that could give the offensive line so much needed security well into the 2020s.

229th Overall: McTelvin Agim, DT - Arkansas: 14.5 sacks in 4 years in the SEC playing for Arkansas with 5 of those sacks and 20 solo tackles as a Senior. If he played for any other Power 5 team that wasn't 2-10 he probably would go a round earlier, maybe even late Day 2 perhaps. Is there some flexibility to move from the 3 technique to the 5 technique I wonder? Watch out Tyler Lancaster.

230th Overall: Tanner Muse, S - Clemson: I know Raven Greene can play inside but I want more bulk if necessary. Muse, who may not be the best cover option in the NFL, has that bulk along with length to lend a hand in the box. His high IQ masks some of his physical limitation. Pettine loves his safeties, he needs one more.

242nd Overall: Ashytn Davis, S - California: He's knocked as a track star in pads, wait until he hits you and then sing that same tune. 90 tackles over his career for the Golden Bears, 7 interceptions, and he still has a bowl game to go to later this month. He has the versatility to play CB as well. Josh Jackson may not survive another training camp, and I'm worried if Ka'dar Hollman's neck injury might not allow him to return to his former self. Did I forget to mention he returns kicks and punts?

I'll see you guys again after the Bowl Games are announced.

Watched Murray in 2 games. I don't think he will be there at 27, let alone 59th.

Biadasz, I always pronounce it BadAss, would be a great addition. Give us a lot of flexibility with Jenkins able to play center.

Prefer a ILB then an OT. OG we are good, but I agree, even if not a need adding a BadAss would be a boost you can't pass up.

I'm mocking 5 QBs and 7WRs in the 1st Round....but the 1st Round can get crazy no matter what. You're probably right that he'll probably be the 1st half of the 2nd Round. I'm hoping the "Big 12 Discount" takes hold and he falls about 15 spots. He's my 39th best prospect on my big board.

The more I mock, the more I'm coming to the conclusion of 3 scenarios in this order:

1. We trade back for a 2nd and a 4th(3rd if Comp Pick). Couldn't find a "realistic partner", but I'm trading with a computer rather than a human being, there's a definite difference.

2. We take the best player available no matter what. Biadasz was 27th and I took him at 27th.

3. MAJOR REACH for WR. The best WRs on my board were Justin Jefferson and Donovan Peoples-Jones. Jefferson was 59th and Peoples-Jones was 80th.

There are just a few top tier WRs. I think Juedy will go in the top 5 and then there are 3 more early impact WRs who will go by 20ish. After that there are maybe 10 who could go in the first. My thinking is that teams will pass on WRs knowing they can still get a good one in the 2nd. A WR may very well be BPA at our pick in the first or second.

On the mock I just did I got Tua at 27. If we pull have the ability to do that I'd take it. Give him this year to learn the offense, don't even put him in during pre-season. Carry 3 QBs (Maybe by next year with Manny backing up) give that hip more than enough time to heal. And from there see what you have in year 2, if he is what he's supposed to be we won't have to eat all 4 years of that inflated contract.

For those wondering my Mock was

27: Tua QB Bama
59: Marvin Wilson DL Florida
91: Antoine Winfield S Minnesota
133: Ben Bredeson G Michigan
170: Logan Stenberg G Kentucky
197: ***** Fisher LB Northwestern
205: Darryl Williams C Mississippi State
229: Colton McKivitz T West Virginia
230: Jake Breeland TE Oregon
242: Trajan Bandy CB Miami

I've seen everyone but McKivitz and Bandy play and would be ecstatic for our draft to turn out this way.

Not bad, but as talented as Tua is that would send a message to the team and the fans that we're not trying to contend for a Super Bowl right now. I'm not sure why you would mock a Safety in the 3rd round after Savage and the signing of Amos.

That's why some people thought it was a mistake to take Rodgers when we did, but that turned out pretty well.

Look at the 2005 roster, and then look at the 2019 roster. That team didn't have as many question marks as we do right now. It was the right person at exactly the right time.

Are you suggesting to get rid of Rodgers after the 2021 season???

The 2005 Packers finished the season 4-12. In my opinion the current roster definitely has more talent than that.

The 2005 season GB lost to injury: Javon Walker, Robert Ferguson, 2nd Rnd pick Terrence Murphy, Ahman Green, Najeh Davenport and Tony Fisher forcing the Packers to ride Samkon Gado for a stretch. Prior to the '05 season they let go: Pro-bowl-starting Marco Rivera, Mike Wahle and Darren Sharper for salary-cap reasons.

This was a team in decline and in serious need of talent ~ you are correct. Coaches were canned because they couldn't coach-up young guys to fill the talent-void.

Honestly, I think Gute really wants to continue pushing the gas pedal...I foresee a trade up if there is a true stud he and company wants this year more than I've ever thought before.

I think if Gute can hit on 50% of his picks in 2020, we might see a 2nd-4th Rounder on a QB in 2021. If not, I could easily see a veteran QB as a stop gap, while he drafts QBs for the next 2-3 years until we can develop one.

The Packers should definitely start using the draft to acquire Rodgers replacement in 2021. If Tagovailoa drops to them next year it might be smart to select him in the first round.

I probably wouldn't object to that, but I wonder what Rodgers would think of it. And I wonder if his experience with Favre would color how he handled it.

I can almost guarantee it will affect him. However I feel like this is all a moot point. The more winning we do, the more Tua is out of our reach. I fully expect him to be a Top 15 pick anyway. Anyone not named Dylan Moses I can't see Gute taking who was previously thought of as a Top 5 or Top 10 prospect.

The last thing Gute should consider when putting his team together is any players feelings. If anyone would know how it feels being a rookie with an incumbent QB being a selfish ***** it's AR. AR will continue to play as long as he is the best option for winning.
