Too bad on him signing with the Steelers, I thought he might have a chance to improve our secondary and probably once he was up to speed, be an instant starter in an injury and talent depleted CB's room.

While we may never know why he chose the Steelers over the Packers, it could also be that the Packers decided to pass on him.

Not easy to find a higher caliber CB after the trade deadline, but I guess in Nixon and Valentine we trust and hey, there's always Bo Melton.

To be fair my suspicion is every team must have some legit injury concerns yet with him and many hesitated because he isn't signing to their roster, but their practice squad

I noticed that aspect, "signed to their PS." Now that might be because they don't want to burn a roster spot until he is actually ready to play. I would imagine they protected his him on the PS, otherwise any of the teams that were interested in him, could poach him and sign him to their 53.

Might also be a long term plan on him for at least 2026. That is the way I would have approached it if I were the Packers. Give him a remainder of this year and a 1 year deal, with few guarantees, but packed with incentives.

I'm guessing he watched the game, Monday, and doesn't think GB is a playoff caliber team. Sadly, hard to disagree with that as the offensive talent can't overcome MLF's stupid playcalling. :(

I mean, honestly though... regardless of one's thoughts on MLF, if I'm a defensive free agent, I'm looking at the Eagles, the Panthers, and the Browns....and I'm thinking, "Their defense held them to 10, 16, 13 points...and lost all three?? Do I really want to be a part of that...?"

Well, we did beat the Steelers, the team that Asante signed with, so there is that.

I figured the inside track that the Packer had was twofold. First, the Packers do have a solid defense, despite a weak and thin CB room. That would have allowed Asante to step in quickly, start and have a solid front 7 in front of him. The benefit there is that his numbers might be better and that brings up his 2026 FA value. Also, Derrick Ansley is the passing game coordinator for the Packers, he was Asante's DB coach at LAC for 2 years.

Anyway, he didn't sign, he is a Steeler and we don't even know if the Packers made him an offer/wanted him.

The way it looks now an O Lineman might be needed just as much as a corner.

Yup, CB might look like a bigger need on paper but to their credit they’ve been mostly adequate at least. We can win plenty with the current DBs at our disposal IMO. With our selection at OL I am not so sure.
