Trevathan is more of a known player than any draft pick just entering the league.

I think this idea of known quantity vs. unknown quantity gets lost more often than not on this forum. Draft picks and compensatory picks are fine and good, but free agents are known quantities. You can make the argument of paying a veteran for past performance vs. future expectations is unwise, but you're still getting a player with a proven track record. Not to mention Trevathan just turned 26 and is entering his prime.
