Good program. Does he fit since we move back to a 3-4? You know he will get PT.
I don’t know much about him but Good thick size as 6’4.0” 313Lb with nice 34” arms and 11” Club hands

Pre-Draft Analysis

With stops at Florida and Missouri, McClellan played all his collegiate football in the SEC, and he totaled six sacks this past season. He possesses a very good frame and the ability to occupy blockers, allowing linebackers to play downhill in run support. McClellan plays with heavy hands and does a good job controlling his gap at the point of attack. He has the strength to anchor and take on double-teams. But at times he can play too high, which makes him more susceptible to being washed out of the play despite his strength. -- Scouts Inc.

Post-Draft Analysis

The Packers are two-for-two in beefing up the defense in this draft, with the versatile McClellan a natural fit in a scheme that wants to move players around the defensive line. McClellan fits thanks to his skills as a 1-technique, with some 3-technique upside. The key is him learning to play with better leverage when he's in a two-gap situation, but his quickness and disruptive abilities are easy to see. The Packers' best interior lineman -- Javon Hargrave -- is 33 years old, making this a clear need. -- Matt Miller

Starting to feel better about the pick as it seems he is more a 1T than 3T and I have mad respect for Daniel Jeremiah. Plus 2 teams took DTs before pick #84.

Mizzou has been known to sneak a few DL surprises. 9ers had one years back.

There are 2 sources that I really trust. CBS has been routinely accurate across drafts going back the last decade or so. They’ve got McClellan at #80.

Daniel Jeremiah with NFL (I’ll admit I’m partial to his Father David Jeremiah as he’s a s top 5 national pastor imo and I listen to dozens). Jeremiah is very knowledgeable also. Both sources are 2 picks apart at #80 and #82 and we were scheduled at #84 and leapfrogged the NFC to get him. What’s the chances.

Daniel Jeremiah had 83 out of his top 100 guys, drafted in the First 100 picks.

Our own @tynimiller had 76 out of 100 That's pretty good! Nice job Tyni!

I think he fits eventually as a rookie maybe not right away. He's about 6'4 313. I think to make him that third DT and make him effective he has to hit 325-330. He would've been a great fit last year in a 4-3.

So what I’m reading is he’s mostly recently been between 313-322Lb.
My guess is for combine these guys trim down to test better at Combine.

As far as 4-3 you are correct. Although as I dig deeper the common scouting reports put him as a 2-Down Run stopping 1 Tech. His length is extraordinary. 1/2” shy of 7 Feet Span. Great 34” arms. Does need some help with technique to improve, but that’s normal outside of a Top 50 ranked guy.

So Chris was the #1 recruit out of OK so he just dominated in HS.

I did like in his Senior college season he popped. 15.5% TFL rate. High QB 20+ pressures and a 6.0 Sack surprise. displayed his ability against top level SEC competition.

For hard numbers I generally trust ESPN because I know high schools and also colleges make guys bigger to make the guy look better. At 313 I was more wondering if he was a Mike Daniels type small-ish guy that can split double teams and damn near steal the handoff. Or on a first and 10 from the 3 yard line was he gonna get blocked clear back to mid field, like what happens to some D-Linemen.

Sure. Although Big Mike was only like 6’0.5” where Chris is 6’3.6”. Chris is slightly taller than Kenny Clark and exact same weight

It is crazy how big players are today compared to a generation ago when 313 is now considered "light" for a DT. lol

So Brian essentially said McClellan was their Top ranked prospect at #77. Now I don’t know particulars like does he mean at 3-4 position groups etc.

So to me if you move on a guy at #77 and he’s your top ranked? Makes me wonder where WE had Chris at on our board?

Wouldn’t shock me to find out we had Chris in the late RD2 realm. 55? 60? 65? Etc. I bet once he hit 70’s Brian was itching to move in on him!

Back then when a DT carried the higher weight it was less muscle and more pasta. That is why many have more speed and strength today even with the weight.
