Of my 175 I provided here - 29 of them were not drafted by the close of the 5th round or pick 181.

Of those 29 I had 11 not get drafted:

118th - Zxavian Harris DT
120th - Deontae Lawson LB
121st - Michael Trigg TE
131st - Aamil Wagner OT
136th - Anthony Lucas EDGE
137th - Dontay Corleone DT
145th - Diego Pounds OT
151st - Jeff Caldwell WR
154th - Tyreak Sapp EDGE
155th - Isaiah World OT
163rd - Taurean York LB

Two crazy observations.....TEs were crazy high drafted according to my board... Marlin Klein was picked 59th and I had him at 171 while Nate Boerkircher was picked 56th and I had him at 174..

The guys that my board says were the biggest steals in order of size of steal:

Garrett Nussmeier QB - picked 249 I had 87
Deion Burks WR - picked 254 I had 107
VJ Payne S - picked 228 I had 122
Rayshaun Benny DL - Picked 250 I had 140

I think you should calculate this metric differently than just pick/rank differential. If you get the #10 overall player at pick 29 (19), that is a much bigger steal than getting the #200 player at pick 245 (45).

I would suggest (pick-rank)/rank. My examples above would be measure as 1.9 and 0.225 respectively. Call it a Value factor.

If there is a reach and your #200 player is taken with 145th pick, it is -0.275. Negative for the reaches and positive for the steals.

Just a thought not a critique. Enjoy your posts, insights, and the data you provide.

Oh for sure, in that case the two STEALS were Danis Dennis-Sutton and Jerod McCoy for sure.

That's what I figured. But we aren't privy to the medicals on McCoy. It may have been a huge reach if the doctors were saying he will very likely never be close to the same player.

the draft always has some corky things that are unexpected. Like Last years Sanders plummeting into middle of Day 3. Hard to predict sometimes. This year it was McCoy at RD4(1)

I felt like how Gute treated our GB 2026 3rd and 4th Rounders was this. One of our top 2 needs was iDT. Most Consensus combined boards had Sutton in mid Round 3 (top 70-80 overall) and McClellan to open Round 4 (top 100-110 area). What’s interesting is we flip flopped them. Imo had we already addressed iDT? (pretend Miller somehow drops to #52) we likely would’ve taken Dani Dennis Sutton earlier. Yet Brian leaned in on need at DL and probably had McClellan graded a little earlier than consensus anyway (more similar to Orange etc) but a better all around fit. So he went DT there instead of OLB, but both our drafted players were similar graded it was a slight edge towards needing DT.

We know this because Brian admitted post draft he tried to go after both in a trade up using #120 to get Dani shortly after he drafted Chris. Nobody would take our offer into the 85-95 area, which imo was a pair of 2026 4th + 2027 4th rounders. What’s amazing is Chris fell right into our lap. I still feel like we just drafted what we graded as a pair of RD3 players but took them at #77 and #120 overall (full disclosure we did spend a 5th packaged) It cost us draft collateral from our Wicks trade at #150’s, but that was cheap to get both players using a 5th Rounder packaged imo.

Btw. Cisse on many draft boards was one of several prospects that fell splitting Lee Hunter and Miller Jr. THAT is the level of player he’s known to be. We needed CB with both starters in contract years. For we addressed or 2nd biggest need in RD2
1st biggest need in RD3
3rd biggest need in RD4

It’s rare we have what looks like a needs driven draft. Yet with limited picks it just kinda fell that way. Once we locked down top 3 needs? We could kinda swing for potential and we actually did take a pair of outside the Top 175 consensus ranked. Both Jager and Domani just missed a Top 175 consensus. Although I’m guessing Brian had them both just inside his Top 150 (or thereabouts)internal board.

PS. Had Domani not missed time last season there’s a very good chance he’s a riser into that prospective “Malik Muhammad” to “Will Lee” type draft range. I love he’s mentored by HaHa Clinton there from his Alma Matter. First phone call that Domani made when drafted was to Dix. He claims Dix has been a big brother to him.
