I didn't follow the draft as much as I usually do this year, but from everything I am seeing, it seems we had a good draft and made good selections.

We filled some needs with our picks, at least if they end up getting significant playing time and play decent.

All we can do now is sit back, watch and hope. Hope none of them get injured, get into a car accident, get arrested and of course, hope they all exceed even the highest expectations of them.

Drafting young men and making many of them instantly wealthy is really a crap shoot. Which of them woke up with a nasty hangover today and which ones are already in the gym?

Agreed. Gluten only had 6 picks (after giving up two 7th round picks for kicker Smack in the 6th). Based on needs and the qualities of the players selected, I thought he did a great job. We'll know in three years. But right now, I'm really happy with this draft.

I will take an extreme case, just to make a point. If you had 2 Kickers playing at Lambeau in January and its a windy 10 degree day, would you rather line up the guy that grew up in Northern Wisconsin and had been kicking in the same conditions all his life. Or would you rather line the guy up that grew up in Brazil playing soccer and this is the first time he has ever seen snow? :D

I am sure that there are kickers that adapt better to the cold, wind, rain, etc. and I guess if I am looking at hiring one to play 3-5 games a year in what could be frigid weather in Green Bay, I would like to know he can kick under those conditions.

I really liked that Brian stayed patient. Well mostly. I wouldn’t have I likely would’ve made another trade or two tbh. This was rare because he picked “needs” based but truly the board kinda naturally fell that way.

Oh btw. Brian said he tried to trade up into back of RD3 (90’s overall ) to get Dani Sutton. Glad he missed! We kept our draft pick and still got him a full round later at 120!! That alone made this remarkable because we didn’t touch 2027 draft capital.

Lot of teams got better. We have to hope we can keep up with them.

I don't know why we would just cut McManus loose. People get injured. Maybe a trade.
It’s certainly possible we could get a Day 3 trade. Our 7th for your 6th type thing.

Then we’d have
RD2
RD3, RD3
RD4, RD4, RD4
RD5, RD5
RD6, RD6
RD7

I felt like we would have won the NCF North and around 12 to 13 games last year if there was just a normal number of injuries. There were so many key players hurt last year.

I also feel the team has gotten better so far in the offseason.

With that being said, I did hear that the rest of the division had a good draft as well.

I guess we would have to jump to an alternative world, where the Packers only use Brazilian kickers that have never seen snow, to really know the answer to that.

The point I was trying to make is this; it is a plus for a kicker who has to kick in cold weather, to have done it before.

Yup and he is already "paid for", with the $1M he received in March for being on the roster. So it will be a kicking competition, rookie against veteran. May the best man win and the 2nd best man get us a nice draft pick via a trade in August

Why would any team offer a nice draft pick for the loser of a rookie vs sub-par veteran competition?

What do you mean alternative world. The Packers almost signed a guy they tried out when they played in Brazil as their international player.

Just a note. I’m not so sure

The Vikings just traded J Greenard for a pair of RD3 picks in 2026-2027. Greenard was a very dynamic force on that Defense. He put up 15.0 Sacks and 28 TFL across the last 2 seasons. Imo Thats the #2 best Defender on that Front 7 aside from Van Stinkel.

So they replaced Hargrave and Greenard with a pair of Rookies
#82 Dominique Orange
#18 Caleb Banks

That’s pretty hard to argue they are better. Cheaper? Ok they saved around $10-15Mil Cap. Other losses of Fabian Moreau and their Punter Wright for Hekker won’t affect them as much, but are easier to replace than their DL will be with a pair of Rookies

MN did get a good LB in Golday in RD2 but likely not a game changing addition either. Might be replacing Eric Wilson in a year or so.

We still have Havrisik on the roster, do we cut him?
No, you give the kid a shot. This is the kicker who set the record for the longest FG in Packer history. And it helped win the game. We owe him that much.

Those do not sound like very good moves by the Vikings. I was thinking the main competition for the Division would be the Lions and the Bears.

Well said. I imagine most of them are in the gym, and I could excuse a few for taking a few nights to celebrate after being drafted, but being a college and pro athlete are demanding jobs - both playing, and staying physically and mentally on top of the game.

I'm 71 and in the gym everyday, ran 25 marathons in my 30s and 40s - until osteoarthritis caught up with me. But my weight is perfect (155 lbs) for my height (5'10") and I do mostly cardio (5 HIIT spin sessions/week and 2 resistance-exercise sessions. So I have some idea of what it means to work ******* conditioning - muscular and cardio-vascular.

But pro athletes, especially in the NFL and the NBA where you can see how cut they are, are just from another dimension. They are incredible fit/strong people with excellent endurance. Yes most of them were born with an athlete's genes. Even so, they have to put in a lot of hours in the gym to get through a grueling 3 hour plus game for 5 plus months.

Thanks OS. It seems to me that the Bears had a lot of offseason losses (and gains). But the losses seem excessive. How many guys from last season won't be back with the Packers? Are the numbers close between the Bears and Pack? Thanks OS.

Agreed. The Vikings are very well coached, but they have made a habit of making bad moves in the off season.

(Hindsight is, of course, 20/20. But at the time they let Darnold leave for the Hags (and a SB win), the Vikings should have known JJM was not gonna be "the guy" at QB.)

Again, it's easy to look back and criticize. Looking forward - I don't see JJM having a successful career as a starting QB in the NFL, maybe a backup. Yes he played on a national champion at Michigan, but his job as QB was game manager. The Vikings made a desperate pick selecting him with, I think, the 7th pick of the draft.

I'm more worried about the Bears than the Lions, but it's a small difference. They are both very talented teams with great coaches. It's gonna be a three-team war in the NFC North in the upcoming season.

I worked in student housing at the UW for quite awhile and saw my share of Badger athletes. You would be amazed at the way some of them lived. Basically, as if nothing or nobody else mattered but themselves. Their living area in shambles, beds looking like a bear slept on them each night, garbage piled up, etc. But of course, they all had a nice big TV, a comfy chair/couch and video games. Now maybe all they were focused on was their sport, but based on most of them not amounting to anything in their sport after college, it wasn't the smartest of moves on their part.
