With the players still left, this one is puzzling. That said, I get that players basically shook hands with other teams before the draft
I was hoping for Bankston out of New Mexico added to thar RB room
He also is a KR, so that could be why

Kenion turns 25 during TC, so better immediately open some coaches eyes in rookie camp or will be cut.

Zxavian Harris must really be red flagged for personal issues to be undrafted and haven't even seen him signing as a UDFA yet

OG Dylan Barret started his collegiate career in Madison and transferred to IA State when Fickell arrved. 6'-4 1/2, 326 lbs. RAS 7.98. Described as a high strength, mauler, who likes to pull.

We have our Watson backup, deep threat. Work on learning route tree, hands & blocking without pressure of being needed game 1.
I was hoping they'd take Orange as well. Gluten obviously didn't have him ranked as high and traded up for McClellan.
Gluten and Co, and all drafting teams in the NFL, are working with a lot more info than we have. So we have to trust the GM here. Gluten has done a decent job of drafting - maybe a very subjective B or B+ over the years.
I do like that Gluten went defense in round 2 and 3, and I like the picks. Cisse was on a lot of boards for #52. This is the first time I heard of McLellan, but I don't do nearly as much research as a lot of people on this forum.
Yeah there were a number of us who liked Dennis-Sutton at #52 IF he dropped that far. Obviosuly Gluten had other ideas but still got D-S at #102, I think. He'll join another Penn St alum, Parsons, on the D.
Clearly something happened that we don't know about. I don't see any good reasons for him to not be picked 1 through 40.
I like the pick and love the name - Smack! That will hopefully be fodder for many color analysts and play-by-guys for years to come.
This isn't quite as surprising as it seems. GB certainly has a problem at K. Seems like Smack was consensus best K in the draft. We know he has a big leg. As always, the question is "can he kick outdoors in the cold". That's always the question for places like GB, Buffalo, Cleveland, and others.
Giving up two 7th round picks is not a big deal IMO. Anyone GB would have liked in rd 7 could have easily made it to UDFA.
And Gluten has to give us one surprise each draft. I think it's in his contract.
I think those (2) 7th Rd picks would have ended up being UDFA's we signed... unless Smack made it that far, then it would have been him and one of our signings. If Smack works out, you have your Kicker for the next 10 years.... that's a good move to try with the Kicking issues we have had, and he was the Top Kicker in the Draft.
True. Kicks from 50 and beyond used to be rare. Now 50-55 is considered a very make-able kick for most kickers.
And I get a little tired of the line that goes "can he kick in the outdoors/cold/wind/snow/freezing rain at Lambeau". The answer is that no one knows. But the opposing kicker faces the same environment on game day. So the question "can he kick at Lambeau" doesn't really mean that much to me.
And if a K does well in GB, that's only a slight advantage over an opponent during home games.
I wasn't as surprised by Gluten giving up two 7s for a 6th to draft Smack. What did surprise me was not taking a RB in any round. Somebody has to replace Wilson, and Brooks is not that guy.
Well every draft needs some intrigue/mystery.

I will take an extreme case, just to make a point. If you had 2 Kickers playing at Lambeau in January and its a windy 10 degree day, would you rather line up the guy that grew up in Northern Wisconsin and had been kicking in the same conditions all his life. Or would you rather line the guy up that grew up in Brazil playing soccer and this is the first time he has ever seen snow?
I am sure that there are kickers that adapt better to the cold, wind, rain, etc. and I guess if I am looking at hiring one to play 3-5 games a year in what could be frigid weather in Green Bay, I would like to know he can kick under those conditions.

Havrisik is all but gone. They’ll want to press on Smack as starter. He’s got the sample size and his yearly cost will be much cheaper. We paid Brandon Handsomely and then he kinda fell off pretty hard.
They’ll have competition in camp but the $ alone will lean in favor (no pun) of Smack. He’s dirt cheap and no contract worry until 2030
Thanks for this info D, didn't know DDS had 3 blocked punts. STs certainly needs help and Gluten addressed it in the draft with Smack, DDS, and Jackson. And Gluten added returner Skyy Moore in FA. About time. Regardless, it's good to see some tangible moves to improve STs.
I don't recall a win last season where STs played an outsized role. In the final loss in Chicago, it was quite the opposite.
Whelan stands out as a punter, as does the long snapper whose name escapes me. But in addition to the kicker, punter, and LS, there are a whole lot of other guys who need to play well - blockers, gunners for ex.
I liked the Smack pick. I mean ya gotta love the pick just because of his name. Here's to a long and successful career in GB for Smack. I can hear the nickname coming.......
