Just Duct it! :roflmao:

Honestly, who wants to join me on a business venture? We could make millions with an iron on process to name change $100 jerseys for football fans, for say $10/name.

Beware though, since such a business would cut into the profits of the NFL and Jersey Manufacturers/sellers, we might become targets for lawsuits or even assassination attempts.

In season or game to game name patches!!

Until the player starts showing up again!

We could make our Shirts with a Velcro name plate and switch them out like bad Girlfriends !

This is why I don't purchase players' jerseys and get generic Packers gear instead.
I have only bought 2 jerseys, both were my Draft crushes for the year ( Jaire and Savage). If I ever buy another, which is highly doubtful, it would be of a HOFer.

I think I have 15 or so Packer jersey's and 2 Jets (Favre home and away) and *gulp* 1 Vikings (Favre). The Vikings one was the only new one and was given to me as a present. Otherwise, I buy a lot of my clothes from thrift shops and have found the other jersey's for $5-15 at them. My favorites and I can't believe they ended up at a thrift shop, are my Reggie White (Packers) and Charles Woodson (Packers).

I’m thinking of investing in 1 roll of white duct tape. Overlapped with Green duct tape + a stencil set and pencil razor.

Any thoughts on whether or not Gute should try to add Jadeveon Clowney to the defense?

I guess such a move would depend on the Packers view of their current roster. More specifically, LVN, Cox, Enagbare and an assortment of rookies.

I think Clowney would be an immediate improvement in the defensive line rotation. The rotation of Gary, Clowney, LVN, Cox/Engabare, could really keep them all fresh, as well as provide solid depth in case of injury.

Obviously, the downsides are the cost of Clowney, roster spot and fewer snaps for developmental players.

If they brought Clowney in, we would have two of the top 3 Run Stop Rate Edges in the league from last year. Gary was #1, Clowney was #3

If it’s Clowney or Tom extension added to this years cap I say Tom
Why not both?

I prefer that they don't give Tom a new deal until after the season. Having another Bahk type resigning would be a bad thing.

I know teams prioritize guys for new contracts and Tom is probably high on that list, but I'd prefer they wait.

I never am a fan of waiting for no doubt extend types - he is cheaper now than he will be then.

And you can shave some of his cost with some cap this year

You know this because?

The Packers gave Love a huge deal before the final year of his rookie contract. Had they waited, he would have cost far less IMO.

Bahk's massive deal came before his contract ended, as well as his career ending injury(s). Had the Packers waited on giving Bahk a new deal, I doubt they guarantee all the money, which was $61.5M.

Due to the NFL's Proven Performance Escalator (PPE) Tom received an additional $849K for last season and this season, due to that same PPE, his salary increases from $1.1M to $3.263M.

If the Packers decide to give Tom a new contract to Tom right now, it will most likely be in the top 3 RT salary range and be around $20-21M/year. That would be a $17M raise for 2025. Yes, you could "shave" some of that cost this season, but you still have to account for it.

My opinion of big contracts, like the one Tom would receive. You wait, you make sure that you are actually getting THAT player. The top end of his contract doesn't change a whole lot of he has a solid 2025 season. However, the bottom end of that deal changes drastically if he doesn't or he suffers a bad injury.

I agree I think it’s generally wise to stay patient on bigger contracts. Probably why we are holding out on J’aire and vice Versa.

The one notable exception is at QB. When you think you have a good one, just lock him down imo. I give extra allowance for what’s deemed a starting QB contract. Historically QB’s best starting seasons happen at a year 3 or later. As is the case with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. So it’s a pretty good bet he’ll outplay his $55m value coming up in 25-26 seasons. By 2027,2028 his contract could be a good value. Top 15 type $$$

When it comes to LT just wait dear Lord!

I give extra allowance for what’s deemed a starting QB contract, yes it’s a little steep year 1-2, but by 2026 it levels off. IMO we’re getting $40Mil-45mil + yearly production from Love, so within reason we’re fine.

It would not shock me to see Love play to $50mil value this season. Call it top 10 in the league or better, something like that. He’s just entering year 1 of his 3 year guaranteed deal (contract out in 2028)

As far as the position of QB, I might agree IF that player has proven to be a TOP QB in the league. I don't think Love proved that, BEFORE the Packers gave him what at the time was the highest QB/player money in the NFL. Also, it doesn't protect a team from a bad injury, like we saw with Bahk.

Back to Tom for one other point. The Packers have deepened their OL depth chart this offseason. Add in the addition of a hopefully healthy 2024 first round pick Jordan Morgan and that depth gets even deeper. One of many players could stand out in 2025 as the Packers new RT, saving them from having to spend a ton of money to retain Tom. Lock Tom into a new contract now, you have lost that flexibility.

Totally agree on LT. Especially looking at our options. Plus let’s face it, while it’s not easy to find a starting left Tackle replacement, it’s nowhere near as Difficult as finding a QB.

I guess I look af our QB and ask, what’s the historical probability our QB has a career ending injury in 4 months or whatever? The Bak debacle. Pretty slim. Then you go the season ending injury argument. That really can happen to any team at any time, so you can’t dwell on that fear too much. Go get your guy

I disagree on Love though. I would’ve done the exact same thing. Love proved to me in his first starting season that he out played his 26th overall selection. I’m quite sure he’d be gone many times over before our selection in a draft redo today.
What then? Do you not pay a guy playing like a top 10 area QB already in his first starting season? Those opportunities don’t present that regular.

Forgot to cover this. ;)

Nobody is really holding out on a new/higher contract for Jaire. Just the opposite. The Packers might be hoping for a new LOWER contract with him.

Bottom line for me. The NFLPA has done some really nice things for players, as has the evolution of contract negotiations and guaranteed money. With all those positive changes for players in mind, there is one evolution of new contracts that I would like to see stopped dead in its tracks. That being, teams feeling like they have to redo "underpaid" players contracts, because the player threatens to sit out until such time it is done or the team is fearful of losing said player at the end of the full contract.

Sadly (for me), NFL contracts are mainly based on past play, with no guarantees on future play.

I disagree on Love though. I would’ve done the exact same thing. Love proved to me in his first starting season that he out played his 26th overall selection. I’m quite sure he’d be gone many times over before our selection in a draft redo today.

I'm not saying that Love wasn't a solid pick at 26, what I am pointing to is the fact that Love didn't have the season (2024) that you would expect from the top paid QB in the NFL. Matter of fact, some might argue he wasn't even top 10. I am 100% confident had the Packers waited until after the season, Love's contract is not as big as it currently is. They also would have only paid him the $20M in 2024, his 5th year option price, not the $55M his new contract called for. That is a savings of $35M in just 1 year.

On the surface that would be correct

However, GB is fully prepared to walk away from J’aire and it has actually been reported to do so through a trade offer. You said so yourself his Sunk is Sunk remember?
Which was actually nothing truer said.
So really theoretically we’re not deciding how much we can save (that’s a side show to sweeten a future deal) The meat of this dilemma is much more about if we should sink more $$ into his services going forward. We are NOT committed past his sunk nor are we negotiating his Sunk. Sunk is Sunk

What on paper is immaterial if it’s not guaranteed. He could have a $100Bil contract and if none is guaranteed? it’s a zero deal. If that makes sense. The $27.5 next year is totally optional we’re not saving anything, we’re deciding on a new contract… or not

Now. Can we trim a few million here and there? Yes. Will it cost us tens of millions? Yes. Two different ways of saying the same think my Poker friend!

Had GB waited on Love's deal they more than likely would've needed to eclipse Prescott's $60mil/yr average costing at least $5mil/yr more.

Would Love have felt "disrespected" & not rushed back after his game-1 knee injury? Would Willis, then, have helped GB beat LAR & possibly AZ? GB wouldn't have made the playoffs with 1 more loss.

Hard to answer those questions definitively, but Gute didn't want to find out.

That’s another caveat. Gutey hit Love with that big contract. Yet he was prudent and found a superb backup strategy. He has a way of making good decisions on the fly. Life is like football it’s filled with surprises. We may have a player Win games that isn’t even in our Roster, it’s part of GMing. Being able to formulate a contingency strategy that works. Gutey has done just that. He’s actually done it repeatedly

That’s another player I think we’ve taken for granted or overlooked at minimum. He's ours game 1

Brandon is a game changing level Kicker. I think he’s a sliver better than Crosby overall (Crosby was clutch) and he was a very reliable Kicker. McNamath has Crosby+ like accuracy with a better long Ball % and Depth

In 2025 we START with a reliable Kicker for the first time since Mason suited up.

Each season a Team’s Placekicker Wins or Loses games. Brandon isn’t perfect. Yet he’ll win more close games than the majority of Kickers imo. I’ll put him up against any Kicker in our Conference.

Every time a new tackle in the league signs a contract or extension his price goes up plain and simple

How much will it go up between say now....and January? How much could it go down if his production stays the same or drops? How much if he suffers a season ending injury? Will they want to resign him if his price is too high and they have a capable replacement on a much cheaper salary? How much extra are you paying for his services in 2025 with a new contract now?

My point being. I don't think the savings of "sign him now" ever warrants resigning a player that still has 1 year left on his contract. Especially when the difference is $17M+ dollars/per year and guaranteed money.

If you are afraid of losing him to free agency, then he probably valued money over location or even worse, he just wanted a new location.
