You are aware of schemes effect guys play, also age can get to the point where a guy has simply timed out or is beginning to and no longer offers that grind of every snap type play. When Rasul Douglas was signed after being a castaway essentially panned out - he had sucked - couldn't keep a spot for PHI and then CAR...

Or Whitney Mercilus type signing - did he explode for us no, but was solid experienced depth...

Jared Veldheer another guy that was on downswing but came in for a late push in a pinch...

The why is easy - he offers NFL starting level experience and performance that is NFL caliber just as recent as last year.

Now if Zayne is going to be fine and isn't a bad injury and we feel he is a better player incase one of our mains go down - doubt we do it, but it would make sense for sure.
Have a blast. Discuss it.

I'm not sold that Savage would be of much help. 2024 he missed over 15% of tackles & allowed 55.6% of receptions in his area.
IMHO, pass!
I agree. My eye test to reviewing film was Savage was what I’d call complacent. He reminded me of the Safety version of Eric Stokes. Savage was afraid to come up and hit someone for 1/2 year streaks. He started strong in 2020, but regressed and never returned to form. He’d make a splash play a couple times per season (Dallas Pick6 in 2022) but he’d disappear the previous 5 games in between. He averaged 0.29 Pass defenses per game (less than 1 PD every 3 contests) and in hid last 3 seasons, 1 INT per season. He allowed a 118.3% Passer rating across his last 3 seasons 2021-2023

I’m actually a Zayne Anderson fan. I think he’s really done a nice job filling in. In 2025 with 2 starts in Williams absence he had 112 snaps he logged defended. He allowed a 10.2% passer rating. Yes. You heard that correctly.
With 2 passes thrown his direction vs Saints.. he allowed? 0 catches and an INT with 18 yard return. The other was a Pass Defense for Notta
He also was 1/11 on a Defense that finished off the Saints pitching the leagues first shutout in 2024, in just his first NFL start.
Across Vikings/Saints he also had 4 tackles 3 Solo and contributed 8 tackles on teams across 2024.
Zayne (6’2” 206lb) is Better size than Savage (5’11” 198lb) with marginal speed loss. 4.44 vs 4.36
Zayne had a 80.8% PFF graded 2024.
Darnell Savage 46.9% PFF grade was a career low in 2024

Zayne has barely played more than one game worth of defensive snaps the entire year of 2024 (74 snaps on defense). I don't dislike Zayne but dude has not really proven anything yet. He is a crazy good athlete for sure though and a ST stud!

He played 115 Defensive snaps across the last 4 contests of 2024 (123 total)

No thanks to Savage. He’s actually regressing. Why do you think he got cut? Across 2 contests he has 1 tackle recorded and 1 missed tackle (50% Missed Tackle rate)
Coming off a terrible, career low 2024 season, he’s timid and indecisive and unless we lose a player to injury there’s really no reason to lose Oladapo or Zayne Anderson to getting poached. Both are good backups + Teams

System, attitude, injuries, motivation, etc.?

Savage was never really a star or high starter quality. However, at the right price and if he's a good teammate, I'd love to see him back in GB, he's just 28.

Ok. So who do you push to Practice Squad and potentially lose to someone’s active roster. Because coin flip they’d get poached in a few weeks. Who’s gone? Oladapo or Anderson

Then after that. Savage plays on Teams? He’s certainly not replacing our Starters. The guy is like thin ceramic

The Packers have 2 roster spot open. I assume they'll call up a WR from the PS for the Browns game. Even if they keep said WR on roster, still leaves an open spot for Savage.

Also, remember you can protect 4 players on the PS. There will probably be more injuries, always good to have strong backup options and I believe Savage qualifies as such.

Oh you’re speaking to putting him on PS. I can see that. He’s good for emergency depth.

Not really. Unless Savage agrees to sign as a PS player. Then sure. If not, the Packers could still sign Savage on a low end deal, and put him on the 53.

I think he will have legit offers from other teams, to be on a 53. This is the time of year when injuries are going 2 or 3 deep, he is of value for a team.

Yeah I misread but that is very little snaps. I've expressed why you sign Savage and why he likely gets cut. There is as much a world of justification to signing him as there isn't, but to just dismiss the notion entirely is IMO at least funny. If Zayne and our other safeties are healthy you don't do this of course. Which Zayne was a FP today so that's a good sign.

I understand getting a good deal. They’re some misfiring, he needs a windshield, she’ll need rubber all around and there’s a radiator leak, so don’t bother using the rest stops she’ll heed ya. She’s great when there’s no hills or turns tho.. the throttle gets stuck open when she’s running hot so careful on the scenic overlooks.
Oh and occasionally she won’t start. But here’s the keys good luck on your trip through the mountains this Winter!

Now do Oladapo and Anderson. ;)

I'm half kidding and half serious.

To be clear, I am not proposing that the Packers sign Savage to replace anyone. What I am proposing is that if Gute feels the need to improve their safety depth, Savage could be that guy.

Every year, during the season we see Gute making small moves that some don't even notice, until such move suddenly pays dividends. These are the small moves that for me separate Gute from a lot of GM's.

It's utterly mind-boggling to consider that anyone who knows anything about the NFL could beliueve even for an instant that the Cincinnatis could have just dialed him up and said, "Hey, why don't you turn in your notice to the Packers and come and work for us, and we'll pay you 20M?" This whole clickbait BS was generated in a clickbait meme farm in India, by people who have no clue how the NFL works, and everyone knows it.

Well... no. Not everyone. The fact that there is a swarm of idiots here in America taking it seriously and worshipping Willis for his courageous stand proves that, I guess. Maybe I should have said "anyone with an IQ above 60."

I saw another one yesterday, which I think was published by that same fake news site. Turns out that in today's game with the Browns, the Packers are declaring a "Charlie Kirk Memorial Ceremony" at Lambeau Field. Before the game starts, there will be a commemoration of Charlie Kirk at the 50-yard line, a kneel-down, moments of silence for the entire stadium, ceremonies on the field to honor ol' Charlie, patriotic music, fly-over with F-16s, and the Packers will dedicate the game to Kirk.

Except I don't believe the memorial ceremony at Lambeau is going to be a very significant event... because I think just about everyone in Green Bay will be home at that time with their televisions, watching the Packers play the Browns in Cleveland.

Oh, and also they put up a lot of video of a terrible traffic accident involving a burning gasoline truck, with the headline "famous former Packer star dies in a horrific accident". And hundreds of sheeple jump in with "Oh, my god, that's horrible!!! God rest his soul, I thank him for how much he meant to us, we're all going to miss him so much it's just terrible that he would die like this, I loved watching him play, he was a great Packer!!!"

Except that the post never identified this suposed ex-Packer who burned to death. They never mentioned his name. But over half the people jumping in on that post and wailing and crying about this terrible tragedy didn't notice that; they were too busy being grief-stricken that this poor guy who they had loved so much when he was a Packer had burned to death.

Whoever he was. Didn't matter; it was just a horrible tragedy, no matter who it was, and that's all that matters to them. "We don't need to know his name, we just loved him anyway!!!!"

Oh, wait - there was also another one, about Brett Favre trying to get a room at a high-end Green Bay hotel when he was in town, but they very rudely turned him away because he was unshaven and dressed Mississippi. Like, you know.... Brett Favre. Like anyone in Green Bay wouldn't recognize him, right?

So, the next day, he walked back in and went to the front desk, wearing a suit and tie; and when the manager started to talk down to him again, he whipped out the documents proving that he now owned the hotel, and proceeded to fire everyone who had been rude to him the day before.

I am aghast at how many people take these stupid posts seriously.

I said this 20 years ago; the internet is both a gift and a curse. It makes it easy for everyone in the world to become as stupid as they want to be, or as smart as they want to be. And the gap between those two cohorts becomes wider and more clearly defined on an almost daily basis.

God help us all.

Yes -13. It really sucks that there are so many lies and that false video is so easy to do. Maybe it will make everyone think for themselves better. Yeah, right

That page is an utter joke. I went at them and they said it’s all hypothetical fun for discussion and love of the Packers….

Insane and ignorant.

I'm tired of those bs sites, and I try to sift through them without clicking on them if I can. I'm pretty sure they get paid by clicks, which is sad, because what they are putting out there isn't journalism, imo.

Another site to not click on! I saw them use the same clickbait headline, but The Dolphins were the team signing Savage.

I'm curious if anyone's heard anything on Tom?
I was late getting home from church so missed the start. Was it a "flare up" or reaggravation of his injury - any indication something was made worse - or was it more like a..."I'm gonna give it a try and see if I can tough it out" and quickly decided it was a no-go?

Just my guess. He's gonna have to wait until he is actually over this problem. I'm surprised he can't tell. It's a matter of impatience. Im also surprised medical doesn't have a better understanding. He was in, what, one play?

It's been quiet...even my few contacts have either said nothing or the one guy said "I'm not hopeful on the timetable being short"
