Shields ready to be lead corner:

    http://www.packersnews.com/story/sp...5/shields-ready-packers-lead-corner/28559849/

An interesting tidbit out of the article and I don't think anyone has mentioned on the forum is that Shields has mostly played at right cornerback. That means that either both outside CBs will play at a new position or that the Packers are looking for an inexperinced guy to cover #1 receivers.

The Vegas folks have the Packers in the 11 win range. That might not be great until you realize they have the Lions at 8 wins, the Vikings at 7.5(lets say 8) and the Bears at 7.
Much depends on the health of Aaron Rodgers, of course.

In addition they didn't list a single team with more than 11 wins with the Seahawks and Colts the only other teams tied with the Packers.

4 days of OTAs start today. The 3 day mandatory minicamp begins a week from today.

The Packers have signed OT Vince Kowalski (6-4, 305) who started 48 games during a four-year career at Villanova and was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association first team in the Football Championship Subdivision last season as well as to the third all-conference team as a sophomore in 2012.

He ran a 5.26-second time in the 40-yard dash at his March pro day with 28 reps of 225 pounds, a 29-inch vertical, 9-0 broad jump and 7.97 three-cone drill.

I don´t know anything about Kowalski but the fact that it took the Packers more than a month after the draft to sign him I expect him to be a long shot to even make it on the practice squad.

With those decent measurables...and I'm assuming a decent intelligence like many at such schools it is surprising he wasn't signed by anyone sooner.

True, according to the Press Gazette he put up those numbers while weighing only 292 pounds at his pro day though.

Being the last selection to fill out the camp roster doesn't instill a lot of faith that he will survive deep into the roster reductions.

From the jsonline blog on the signing of Kowalski: "The Packers now have six tackles on their roster in starters David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga, Don Barclay, Jeremy Vujnovich, Fabbians Ebbele and Kowalski." It would be great if Vujnovich could push Barclay but that's asking a lot for a player going into his second year in Green Bay. The two rookies may be fighting for PS spot and a tenuous one at that.

It looks like the Packers roster is now up to the full 90 including Randall who has yet to sign so far as I can tell.

Some weeks ago it was reported that Bush's locker was still intact, as though the last roster spot might be held for him depending on his recovery from sports hernia surgery. McCarthy stated that giving Bush's number to Rollins was premature, indicating some difference of opinion with Thompson. That door has closed...for now.

I just don't see the need to resign Bush unless he does it for vet minimum or so...just not worth more now moving on.

The Packers could release one of the guys at the bottom of the depth chart at any point to make room for Bush. I din't see Thompson bringing him back though.

    Oh, I agree.

It's a matter of indifference to me. It's the time of year when thoughts turn to dime back / gunners for lack of other interesting items.

The only interesting thing about it is the evident disagreement between McCarthy and Thompson.

He looks like an OG, not an OT. After Sitton, Lang and Barclay, the choices are underwhelming, and by that I include Taylor and Tretter.

Bakhtiari, Sitton, Linsley, Lang, Bulaga, Barclay. Tretter will get a nod because he can back up at center and was a 4th. round pick who has not a had much of a chance to disqualify himself in those 2 redshirt years. That's assuming the injuries are not showing permanent affects.

There might be room for one more...the Packers have carried 7 at times in the past, 8 more recently. I'd like to see Rotheram show enough to bump Taylor.

    • Kowalski does look more like an OG but he's about the same size as Tretter (who is listed at 307 lbs.) and they tried him at OT. Now, having never heard of, or seen Kowalski play, I'm going out on a limb and guess that Tretter is the more athletic of the two. ;) It'll be interesting to see if Tretter gets snaps at OT in TC.

    • I've been a defender of Jarrett Bush as a STs specialist but I think it's time to move on. He just turned 31 and IMO it's time to find a replacement who can contribute more from scrimmage if called upon.

I really don't expect Taylor to make the roster once again. He was terrible during the only significant playing time he saw over the last two years in the game at New Orleans in 2014. Rotheram is one of the undrafted free agents I'm intrigued by.

Tretter has to significantly improve his pass protection though to get any playing time at tackle.
