I am not sure if this is talked about enough. Sherman made the playoffs four consecutive years with the Pack. Was an underrated coach but bad GM. What were your thoughts on those teams? Legitimate contenders? Average teams? I like digging into Packer history.

2003 was the only legit contender from that period. Jake Freaking Delhomme almost took down the Patriots that year.

But it's an interesting question. Why did Mark Murphy have the balls to strip Sherman of GM duties, and he seems like a total wimp nowadays?

Murphy took over as the president of the Packers in January 2008, two years after the team fired Sherman.

Sherman started with a good team and pushed them further and further into cap hell until we could no longer afford to keep our key players. He had no idea what he was doing as a GM.

Sherman traded many of his 2nd round draft slots. Also could be bluffed. Traded up to grab a punter in the third round. Said punter then sat on the 53 but never punted his rookie season. They went and got another competent punter.

P B.J. Sander, No. 87 overall. Few teams draft a punter this high, but I can't recall another team trading up for a punter. And for a player that wasn't well regarded. Sander was buried on the 2004 roster so they wouldn't have to release him during his rookie season, and he was awful when given a chance in 2005. But this was a bad pick before he ever stepped onto the field. While this isn't a significant draft spot, it did show how overmatched Sherman was as a GM.
