Allen Rossum was released today by San Fran. to make roster room for Michael Crabtree.

Rossum was a high impact return man for the Packers 8-9 years ago and is the NFL's second all time return yardage man.

With Will Blackmon lost for the season he might be a good addition. He would bring the benefits of experience to the Packers' return game and would allow the team to reduce the risk of injury as a returner to receiver Jordy Nelson.

Rossum, like Blackmon, can also play in the secondary as a back-up.

Rossum was averaging 21.7 yds. on kick returns and 7.0 on punts for the 49ers this season. But he was 26.8 on kick rets. in '08 and 14.9 on punts last year so he may still have some gas in his 33 year old tank.

Pick up the phone and talk to him, Ted Thompson.

I think the Packers have some confidence in Jordy Nelson's abilities. He did a pretty decent job last week, but it wouldn't hurt to keep Rossum's number handy.

Nelson is ok as a returner but Rossum is a specialist in that department. The Packers need to get Nelson more involved in their passing game as a wideout.

If the Packers don't move immediately on Rossum someone else will snap him up.

If Rossum is so great, why did SF get rid of him? Why aren't teams lined up to sign him? Because he's not a dynamic returner anymore and brings nothing as a backup DB. He's best days are behind him. There is no room for him in GB. Jordy will do just fine.

I didnt read anyone saying he was great... and there is a line to sign him... apparently Dallas is first.

Dallas did sign him it looks like.

I just get tired of everyone clammoring over every ex-Packer. KR is the least of our worries right now. Jordy should be fine. If not him then Swain, Williams or even Woodson can fill in.

It may not be the lure of having an ex packer playing for the packers again... imo someone like rossum brings experience to a young and at this time struggling team. And the 49ers released rossum to make room for some guy named Crabtree??? :dontknow: haha
