The #4 jersey has to be retired. No other player could possibly take up that mantle with that jersey.
For all his flaws as a quarterback (and there were some flaws) he is most definitely among the best to ever throw the ball. He WAS a legend.
The Brett Favre that retired, unretired and played for the Jets and then retired and unretired to play for the Minnesota Vikings to me is a disgrace. How a man can be so bitter and revenge driven is beyond me. Sure the postseason situation could have been handled better by Thompson/ McCarthy but they had made their decision to move on after Brett had told them he would retire. That is a completely logical and sensible decision to make by the managers of a football team.
What Brett Favre has become is a terrible shame. When he returns to Lambeau Field in purple (still can't imagine it) it is going to be weird. It is simply the wrong time to retire his jersey when he is about to line out AGAINST us for a hated rival.
When Favre's career finally comes to an end (for good) there should be a gap of about 2-4 years before we see any jersey retirement ceremony. Then it will be time to remember all the good he achieved as a Green Bay Packer.
