We'll take some time off here in the next couple of days and then we'll get back at it with the fundamentals….We're not going to change our approach. Overall—B+

The Packers got a rebound win & rested top starters.

Sportsline.com Overall Grade: B " Favre started and had a good first half to get the Packers going. The defense, even resting a lot of guys, shut down the Lions offense.”

CheeseheadTV.com Good, Bad & Ugly: Good--Favre, Grant, McCarthy; Bad--Wells, Bishop, Bush; Ugly--Lions.

COMMENTARY: The Pack got back-on-track winning a rebound game to finish with a 13-3 season record & heading into the playoffs with a first-round bye. Their first playoff home game is on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 3:30 pm (CDT).

PREVIEW: In two weeks, the team is relatively healthy facing an opponent in a playoff home game. Their destiny for a long overdue return to the Super Bowl is in their talented hands! The Packers are capable of wins against the "America's what?" Cowgirls & the “cheaters” Patriots. MORE LATER IN NEW THREAD!

NFL POWER RANKINGS

NFL Power Rankings: Pack 3rd, 4th or 5th

YahooSports: 3. Green Bay is the better team [than Dallas]. Green Bay seems stronger than ever after its backups took care of business against Detroit.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ysrankings010108&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

USA Today: 4. Plenty of postseason records left for Brett Favre to claim.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2007-power-rankings.htm

Sports Network: 4. NFC Playoff road looks navigable for Favre and company.

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/misc/nfl-poll.htm

Sporting News: 4. Despite Ryan Grant's emergence, the running game still is a legitimate concern [with RB Grant & RB Jackson, really?].

http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=331743

Sports Illustrated: 4. I thought this would the season of [Favre’s] farewell tour….A few souls predicted that Green Bay would rise to runner-up position behind Bears, but I didn't see one forecaster anticipating the glories to come.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/dr_z/01/02/rankins.part1/index.html

ColdHardFootballFacts: 4. The Packers showed some pride rolling past the pride-free Lions 34-13 in a meaningless game.

http://coldhardfootballfacts.com/Articles/10_235_Power_Rankings:_Regular-season_wrapup_edition.html

Fox: 5. The Packers tied a franchise record for wins with their 34-13 cakewalk victory over Detroit on Sunday. Brett Favre completed nine of 11 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns in limited action.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/powerRankings

Sportsline: 5. The week off will be good to get some guys healed up. If they're at 100-percent, they're as good as anybody.

http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10553378

Espn: 5. Brett Favre's revived play became one of the feel-good stories of the season. We kept waiting for the Pack's bubble to burst, but it never did. Now if they can just find a way to win in Dallas.

Profootballweekly: 5. Rolled up 34 points with starters resting [against Lions].

You are quoting what the "sporting news" power ranker said & you left out my editorial comments afterwards in brackets: {with RB Grant & RB Jackson, really?}.

NFL ANNUAL AWARDS: PACKERS

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7...13162&ATT=2212

A Grade: Packers—The limited turnovers and brilliance of Brett Favre, the discovery of Ryan Grant, the tough defense and the vastly improved special teams equaled a truly unforgettable 13-win 2007 season.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7623384

Comeback player: Brett Favre, Green Bay. Because Brady was my MVP choice, I could vote Favre as comeback player and Moss for offensive player of the year without slighting either.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2007-12-26-playcallers-main_N.htm

Ranking NFL best playcallers

Rank 7. McCARTHY Packers head coach

• NFL experience: 15 years. • Spot: Sideline.

• Offense rank: 4th. • Primary influences: Paul Hackett and Marty Schottenheimer.

• Expert says: "I don't know if, when you were in school, you had to watch the film The Taming of the Shrew," Collinsworth says. "But that's what I keep thinking of when I'm watching McCarthy work with (Packers quarterback) Brett Favre. He's fundamentally changed Brett, who is now a quick-read, quick-release, get-it-out-there quarterback. "He has changed Brett's mentality on the field."

CRIS COLLINSWORTH, NBC says: "If I had to name one guy right now who is the MVP of play-callers, it would be Mike McCarthy. He's changed Brett Favre . "Mike gave Brett so much responsibility in this offense. They started spreading the field and let him make the decisions. They let him make all the hot reads. They basically dare teams to blitz them, and Brett's job is to make the quick reads and get it out of there and make the plays. It's worked beautifully. "McCarthy has a low-key demeanor, very understated. But he's so respected within that organization. We want to praise Brett so much, and justifiably so ... he's a great player. But that's an awfully young football team with a young offensive line, and he's getting great production."

TROY AIKMAN, FOX says: "I'd have a hard time not recognizing Mike McCarthy. The Packers went into the season thinking (running back) Vernand Morency was going to be their No. 1 guy. He's banged up. First game of the season, (wide receiver) Greg Jennings goes down. (Tight end) Bubba Franks has been banged up. The offensive line has been shuffled around all season, and yet they've played at a very high level, with every reason not to. And Mike McCarthy is getting the results."
