Bears' Benson pepper sprayed, charged

Bears running back Cedric Benson, the fourth overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft, was charged with boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest Saturday night near Austin, Texas, according to a published report.

Both charges are misdemeanors.

Benson, who starred at the University of Texas, failed a field sobriety test on his boat, a Lower Colorado River Authority spokesman told the Chicago Tribune.

When police tried to get Benson to take the sobriety test on land, Benson resisted and refused to put on a life jacket, police told the newspaper.

According to the report, there were 12-15 people on Benson's boat, but the running back was the only one arrested.

Last season, Benson played in only 11 games for the Bears due to injury and gained 674 yards for a career-low 3.4 yards per carry average. He did have a career-best 123 receiving yards in 2007.

Benson is amazing. An arrest in 2002 for Pot. An arrest in 2003 for breaking into an apartment. Now drunk boating. He's also been found guilty of sucking ***.

Geez........pretty soon the NFL is gonna have to build it's own jail.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that he was maced. He's just not turning out to be the guy Chicago wanted him to be.

It would be no big loss to the Bears if he is suspended. He's one of the worst running backs in the NFL.

I think that's his mom. All the reports say that she was on the boat with him.

I also read that he cried and asked for his mom to save him.

I am definately NOT a Benson fan, but his side of the story is very interesting.

:shock: My first thought was hot dog....but you know what? Upon closer inspection, it sure DOES look like papers. And the tin foil in his lap.......i knew guys that carried their stash that way.
