It looks like the NFL was counting on Rodgers signing with the Steelers. Week one they open with his last team the Jets and you have Justin Fields, the Steelers opening day starter last year now signed with the Jets facing his former team.

Then later in the year Sunday Night Football the Pack play in Pittsburgh.

Rodgers is reportedly going to sign with the Steelers in the next few weeks. Pittsburgh did not draft a QB this year, and supposedly wants to sign him to a one year contract. As prickly as Rodgers is, I'm guessing he might have backed out of it if they had drafted a quarterback.

I think I read this on CBS Sports - someone close to Rodgers thinks he's delaying signing with the Steelers so he can avoid the first two OTAs. That kinda makes sense. Rodgers has long stated his dislike for OTAs. The third OTA is mandatory in the NFL, so the thinking is that he has a verbal agreement with the Steelers that will be finalized after the first two OTAs.

They should also get a commitment that he won't be in Egypt or anywhere else in the world during the third, mandatory OTA. He missed it last year for the Jets, and it sent a lousy message and was seen as hypocritical, based on earlier, contrary comments from Rodgers.

Wow I'm glad he's not a Packer anymore. Way too high maintenance.

What I mean isn't that I don't think it really comes just with being a star. There are plenty of star players who you almost never hear talked about (and plenty of them are difficult, hold controversial beliefs, etc). Maybe it's chicken vs egg but I'm pretty confident that (star or not) if Rodgers hadn't seemingly made it a point to disparage the "legacy" sports media, there'd probably be 75% less chatter about him, regardless of everything else. Like I said, I think he does have a tendency to keep things going (in that he feels like a "get the last word in" type of guy) but I also think it's a case where a lot of the "news" about Rodgers is only news...because the people who make the news are telling us it's important news :p

That's kind of what I mean though. I don't think Rodgers' personality radically changed at this point and I don't think he reinvented his beliefs at this time BUT it is around the time that Rodgers started appearing on McAfee more and started his "campaign" of criticisms directed at much of the rest of sports media.

And I don't want to get too into the weeds about it but I suspect for many much of the "drama" can all stem back to his "immunized" comments (which for the record I found to be immature, boneheaded, and deliberately misleading, although I think a simple "no comment" should have been a perfectly acceptable answer without inviting further prying/questioning) and I have a hunch there are many media types who are never going to forgive or forget him committing that unpardonable sin...but again I think that will probably take the conversation a messy direction for many :D
You nailed it Magooch, Rodgers is a get-the-last-word-in guy. As a result, he now comes across as overbearing - to add to arrogance and narcissism. He has to make news to draw attention to himself. That attitude, the way he carries himself now, is likely why Jeopardy turned him away, and why he'll have no future in NFL broadcasting. He's too much and has never shown an ounce of self-awareness.

The Steelers did draft a QB. They drafted Will Howard in the 6th round.

Sounds like Howard is somewhat of a project, since he took most of his snaps out of the shotgun and the Steelers run more of a Pro Set with the QB under center.

So yes, the Steelers are probably still counting on signing Rodgers, unless they think they have a chance with Mason Rudolph as the starter. I doubt they want to go that route.

I think Rodgers likes all the attention and chatter about where he will end up. More importantly, Rodgers has never liked participating in OTA's. Which when he hasn't, he gets a lot of negative feedback from fans and the media. So it wouldn't surprise me if Rodgers told the Steelers that he will sign with them, but after the OTA's.

I've come across so many top 10 all-time QB lists and almost always, I'll see Dan Marino ahead of Rodgers if Rodgers is even listed in their top 10. There's no metric that Marino is ahead of Rodgers and when I show them this, crickets.

Just looking at these numbers, I'm not sure that anyone could make a case that Marino was a better QB than Rodgers. Everything on this chart says Rodgers is way ahead of Mariano on any "all-time" ranking of NFL QBs.

IMO Tom Brady is clearly the GOAT. As for others like P Manning, Aikman, and others an argument can be made about who was the better QB. Again, other than Brady, it's not worth the time to try and rank these guys. They were all great at what they did, albeit in different ways.

And even ranking Brady as GOAT can be argued. But with seven rings, with two teams, it's hard to argue that Brady isn't the GOAT.
